- Ensure the small T-Pin/T-Bushing is at the front mounting holes and the large T-Pin/T-Bushing is at the rear.
- Attach the legs using:
- M16 x 2 x 40mm bolts
- 5/8” conical washers
- Thread the bolts from the inside of the center section into the threaded portion of the legs.
- Finger-tighten the bolts initially until final adjustments are made.
Step 2: Install Legs into the Truck Bed
- Lower the assembled center section and legs into the truck’s underbed pucks.
- Rotate the T-Pin handles to the OPEN position.
- Ensure the legs seat fully into the pucks.
- Rotate the handles to the CLOSED position and secure them with lynch pins.
- Verify that the handles are snug and not rattling. Adjust the castle nuts by hand if necessary.
Step 3: Install the M5 Head to the Center Section
- Apply grease to the following locations:
- Skid plate surface (use grease or REESE lube plate #83001, max thickness 3/16”).
- 5th wheel jaw and kingpin on the trailer.
- Grease fitting on the top of the head using a grease needle.
- Internal mechanisms with white lithium grease.
- Place the M5 Head (30892) on top of the center section.
- Insert the pull pins and secure them with spring clips.
- Verify the clips are properly seated through the sight holes on the head pan.
Step 4: Adjust the Hitch Height
- Ensure a minimum of 6” clearance between the truck bed rail and the bottom of the trailer.
- Adjust the legs vertically by selecting the appropriate mounting holes in the center section.
- Tighten all M16 bolts to 220 ft-lbs using a torque wrench.
Step 5: Hitching the Trailer
- Confirm the head is in the Ready-to-Receive position:
- Handle pulled out fully with an audible “CLICK.”
- Indicator shows RED.
- Slowly back the truck into the trailer so the kingpin aligns with the 5th wheel funnel.
- The jaw will automatically latch when the kingpin is secured. Verify the indicator turns GREEN.
- Perform a Pull Test:
- Block trailer wheels and keep landing gear down.
- Slowly pull forward to confirm the hitch is securely latched.
- Insert the bail pin into the locking hole to secure the handle.
Step 6: Unhitching the Trailer
- Block the trailer wheels and lower the landing gear.
- Remove the bail pin from the locking hole.
- Pull the handle to the Unhitching position (audible “CLICK”) and rotate it toward the cab.
- Slowly drive the truck forward to uncouple the trailer.
Maintenance:
Before Each Trip:
- Verify that all bolts, lynch pins, and T-Pins are secure and undamaged.
- Ensure proper operation of the handle and locking mechanisms.
Periodic Maintenance:
- Reapply grease to the skid plate, jaws, and kingpin every 1,000 miles or as needed.
- Tighten all M16 bolts to 220 ft-lbs.
- Inspect for wear and clean debris from the head before lubricating.
Safety Notes:
- Ensure at least 6” clearance between the truck bed and trailer.
