Installation Instructions for Chevrolet Volt
Part Number:

Wiring Access Locations:
- P1: Behind driver side taillight housing, outside of trunk
- P2: Behind passenger side taillight housing, outside of trunk
Tools Required:
- Ratchet
- 10mm socket
- T-15 Torx bit
- Phillips screwdriver
- Panel trim removal tool
- Cutting tool
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Disconnect Battery:
- Locate the vehicle battery on the driver side under the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Prepare Trunk Area:
- Open the vehicle trunk.
- Remove all trunk floor coverings.
- Remove the fasteners securing the trunk storage trays.
- Remove the trays.

Remove Rear Scuff Panel:
- Pull out on the bottom of the scuff panel and then lift up to remove it.
- Take care not to damage the alignment tabs on the back.

Access Driver Side Taillight:
- Starting on the driver side, remove the fasteners securing the side felt liner in place.
- Pull back on the felt liner to allow access for routing the custom wiring harness.

Remove Driver Side Taillight:
- On the outside of the vehicle, remove the fasteners securing the taillight.
- Gently pull the taillight rearward and out.

Disconnect Taillight Wiring Harness (Driver Side):
- Behind the taillight, locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors.
- The connectors will be similar to those on the custom wiring harness.
- Separate the connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs.

Modify Grommet for Wiring (Driver Side):
- Locate the grommet behind the taillight where the vehicle taillight wiring passes from inside the cabin to the taillight.
- Remove the grommet and cut a slit large enough to route the custom wiring harness through.

Install Custom Wiring Harness (Driver Side):
- Route the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire out through the grommet opening and through the slit in the grommet.
- Insert the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors.
- Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.

Seal Grommet (Driver Side):
- Reseat the grommet and use sealant (not provided) to seal the cut in the grommet and around all the wires.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with a nut in the vehicle frame, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw.
- Ensure the area is free of rust, dirt, and paint.
- Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
- Warning: Check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface before drilling to avoid damage and/or personal injury.

Mount Converter Box:
- Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle, near the taillight.
- Adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.

Install Custom Wiring Harness (Passenger Side):
- Route the custom wiring harness end with the green wire to the passenger side behind the removed scuff panel.
- Repeat steps 4 through 9 on the passenger side using the harness end with the green wire.

Route Black Power Wire:
- Route the black power wire from the vehicle battery as shown on the included CME-PCL-INS sheet.

Position 4-Flat Connector:
- When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle.
- When not in use, roll up and store in a convenient, out-of-the-way location.
- Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.

Reassemble Vehicle Components:
- Reinstall all items removed during installation and reconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.

- 10-amp fuse (for fuse holder on converter harness)

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Disconnect the Battery
- Locate the vehicle battery on the driver side under the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Step 2: Prepare Trunk Area
- Open the vehicle trunk.

Step 12: Install Custom Wiring Harness (Passenger Side)
- Route the custom wiring harness end with the green wire to the passenger side behind the removed scuff panel.
- Repeat steps 4 through 9 on the passenger side using the harness end with the green wire.
Step 13: Route Black Power Wire
- Route the black power wire from the vehicle battery as shown on the included CME-PCL-INS sheet.
Step 14: Position 4-Flat Connector
- When in use, route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle.
- When not in use, roll up and store in a convenient, out-of-the-way location.
