Step 1: Locate the Vehicle’s Factory Wiring Harness
- Find the vehicle’s wiring harness plugs located at the rear, underneath the vehicle, inside the driver’s side frame rail.
- The plugs should match the Trailer Tow Harness ends.
- Carefully separate the connectors, ensuring not to break the locking tabs.
- Verify that the mating surfaces are clean and free of dirt.
- Install the Trailer Tow Harness between the mating plugs.
Step 2: Determine Mounting Point
- Select a suitable mounting location, usually on the driver’s side between the rear post and the wheel well area.
- Route the harness to this location, ensuring approximately 4” or more of extra length for mounting.
- Ensure the trailer’s wire harness has sufficient length to reach this mounting point.
- Verify that you have at least 5” of clearance behind the mounting surface for proper installation.
WARNING:
Avoid routing wires near hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any other pinch points that may damage the wire.
Step 3: Drill the Mounting Hole
- Drill a pilot hole using a 1/4” drill bit at the chosen mounting point.
- Confirm your wire lengths and location.
- Use a 2” hole saw to complete the mounting hole.
NOTE:
- If the vehicle has a bed liner, it may need to be notched, or longer screws (not included) may be required to mount directly to the body panel.
- Apply rust-proof coating to all drilled areas to prevent rust.
CAUTION:
Always check behind surfaces before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle or injury.
Step 4: Install the 7-Way Connector
- Use the 7-way connector end as a guide to mark the mounting holes with a center punch.
- Drill four 3/32” holes as marked.
- Apply rust-proof coating to the drilled holes.
- Route the harness through the mounting hole and connect the 7-way end to the harness.
- Secure the 7-way connector to the vehicle surface using the 4 self-tapping screws provided.
Step 5: Secure the Harness
- Route and secure the harness to the vehicle using cable ties provided.
- Ensure wires are routed away from hot pipes, sharp edges, heat shields, and any points that may damage the harness.
Final Steps:
- Test the Installation: Verify proper operation of the harness using a test light or a trailer connection.
