Installation Instructions for Tongue Jacks
Tools Required:
- Ratchet
- Socket set
- Torque wrench
Step-by-Step Instructions:
General Installation Notes:
- Ensure no interference with the tow vehicle, tongue, ground, or mounted accessories in all positions (stationary or in motion).
- Verify there is no obstruction in handle swing or swivel positions, both before and after installation.
Bolt-On Rack Jack Installation:
- Place the gear housing on the tongue and insert the supplied bolts into the holes corresponding to the tongue width.
- Position the mounting bracket below the tongue with the flat surface against it.
- Secure with locknuts and torque to 25 ft-lbs.
Snap Ring/Bolt-Through Installation:
- Snap Ring Models:
- Place the jack bracket over the mount and fully seat the snap ring into the groove.
- Bolt-Through Models:
- Insert the jack bracket into the recessed opening on the mount.
- Place the small end of the bushing into the jack bracket and onto the bolt.
- Tighten the locknut until there is minimal movement in the bushing.
A-Plate Mounting Instructions (Bolt-On or Weld-On):
- Weld the jack in place using a 3/16” fillet weld by an AWS-certified welder.
- Align the jack with the coupler before welding, ensuring proper positioning of the foot (if equipped).
- For Bolt-On Applications:
- Use three 3/8"-16 grade-5 bolts with washers.
- Torque bolts to 15-20 ft-lbs.
Direct-Mount Instructions:
- Weld the jack directly to the mounting surface using a 3/16” fillet weld at two points on each side of the jack.
Safety Notes:
- Fully retract and rotate the jack before towing.
- Never exceed the rated capacity of the jack, footplate, or caster wheel.
- Avoid applying side forces as they can cause jack failure.
- Ensure all locking mechanisms (plunger pins, snap rings) are properly engaged.
- Do not attempt to adjust the drop foot or leg while under load.
- Always replace damaged or worn parts before use.
- Keep children away from the product and the supported load.
Maintenance:
- Lubricate internal gearing and bushings annually with automotive grease for side-wind models.
- Apply light oil to the handle unit for both side-wind and top-wind models.
- Flush the assembly with fresh water and reapply lubricant if used in marine environments.
