Installation Instructions for CURT Taillight Converter (Part Number: 59496) ### Part Numbers: - 59496 ### Tools Required: - Ratchet socket set - Torque wrench - Tape measure ### Wiring Access Location: - SUVs, Mini & Full-Sized Vans: Behind DS/PS taillight housing, rear bumper, rear access panel, under rear floor panel. - Passenger Cars: Inside/outside of the trunk, behind rear bumpers. - Pickup Trucks: Behind DS/PS taillight housing, rear bumper fascia. ### Step-by-Step Instructions: 1. Step 1: Locate Vehicle Taillight Wiring - Refer to the wiring location guide to find the appropriate location for the vehicle's taillight wiring. 2. Step 2: Identify Vehicle Wiring Type - Use a multimeter or test light to check the vehicle’s wiring type. - Follow the chart provided to identify the signal locations and determine which wires will not be used for installation. 3. Step 3: Disconnect the Vehicle’s Battery - Disconnect the negative terminal of the vehicle’s battery before beginning installation. 4. Step 4: Attach Input Wires of Taillight Converter - Using snap locks, connect the input wires of the taillight converter to the corresponding vehicle harness wires identified in Step 2. 5. Step 5: Mount the Converter - Locate a flat spot near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. - Secure it with the included cable ties. 6. Step 6: Ground the White Ground Wire - Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with a nut in the vehicle frame. - If necessary, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. - Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and screw.
