Installation Instructions for Tongue Jacks
General Guidelines:
- Confirm no interference with the tow vehicle, tongue, ground, or mounted accessories before and after installation.
- Check for handle swing and swivel clearance in all positions.
Tools Required:
- Torque wrench (set to 25 ft. lbs.).
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Bolt-On Rack Jack Installation:
- Place the gear housing on the tongue and insert the supplied bolts into the corresponding holes.
- Position the mounting bracket below the tongue with the flat surface against the tongue.
- Secure with locknuts and torque to 25 ft. lbs.
Snap Ring/Bolt-Thru Installation:
- For snap ring models, position the jack bracket over the mount and insert the snap ring fully into the groove.
- For bolt-thru models, position the jack bracket into the recessed opening, align the bushing onto the bolt, and tighten the locknut until movement is minimal.
A-Plate Mounting (Bolt-On or Weld-On):
- Ensure all welding is performed by an AWS-certified welder.
- Align the jack and coupler before welding. Use a 3/16" fillet weld.
- Bolt the jack A-plate to the coupler with 3/8-16 Grade 5 bolts, torqued to 15-20 ft. lbs.
- Weld a support plate to the bottom of the trailer frame.
Direct Mounting:
- Position the jack and weld 1" in two locations on each side using a 3/16" fillet weld.
Safety Notes:
- Fully retract and rotate the jack before towing.
- Remove drop foot or caster before towing.
- Avoid side forces to prevent jack failure.
- Ensure maximum rated capacity is not exceeded.
Maintenance:
- Annually lubricate internal gears and bushings with automotive grease.
- Apply lightweight oil to the handle unit and other moving parts.
- For marine environments, flush with fresh water and reapply lubricants.
