Preparation: - Apply heavy oil or grease to the hitch ball before each connection to the coupler. Avoid accumulation on the nut or threads of the shank. 2. Maintenance of Contact Surface: - Ensure the contact surface between the ball and shank is free of grit to prevent galling or binding. - Lubricate the contact surface with light oil, motor oil, or equivalent. 3. Plunger Cleaning: - If the plunger becomes sticky due to contamination, remove the ball and clean or flush the shank assembly with a light aerosol lubricant. 4. Coupler Adjustment: - Tighten the coupler adjustment nut until it clamps tightly on the ball. - Back the nut off by 1/2 turn. 5. Safety Check: - Ensure the plunger is in the locked position before towing. - Verify that there is at least 50 pounds of tongue weight on the ball. 6.
