- 1-1/8” Socket and Wrench
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
- Flat Head Screwdriver
- Hammer
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Pre-Installation Setup:
-
Prepare the Tow Vehicle and Trailer:
- Park the tow vehicle and trailer on level ground in a straight-ahead position.
- Level the trailer and measure the height from the ground to the top of the ball socket. Record this measurement as "X."
-
Select a Hitch Ball:
- Use a hitch ball that matches the trailer coupler size (1-7/8", 2", or 2-5/16") and ensure it is V-5 rated equal to or greater than the trailer GVWR.
- Torque the ball nut to 450 ft-lbs for 1-1/4” nuts or 250 ft-lbs for 1” nuts.
-
Adjust Ball Height:
- Insert the hitch bar into the receiver and secure it with a pin and clip.
- Adjust the ball height to 3/4" to 1" above the trailer coupler to compensate for vehicle squat.
Installation Steps:
Step 1: Install the Ball Mount:
- Attach the ball mount to the hitch bar using bolts, washers, and nuts. Align the washers and torque to 300 ft-lbs.
- Adjust the ball mount angle to achieve the correct spring bar height ("Y").
Step 2: Attach Spring Bars:
- Insert the spring bars into the ball mount trunnion sockets and swing them outward to the same angle they will have when connected to the trailer.
- Use a chain to attach the spring bars to the trailer frame via snap-up brackets.
Step 3: Set Up Snap-Up Brackets:
- Install the snap-up brackets on the trailer frame so that the spring bar chains hang vertically.
- Raise the yoke of the snap-up bracket until it locks into place. Repeat on both sides.
Step 4: Final Adjustments:
- Measure the front wheel well height before and after hitching. Adjust spring bar chains or ball mount angle to maintain the original measurement.
- Ensure the trailer is level and all connections are secure.
Maintenance:
- Lubricate ball mount sockets and spring bar trunnions daily during towing.
- Clean and grease the hitch ball and coupler socket before each use.
- Inspect bolts, chains, and components for wear and replace as needed.
Safety Notes:
- Loaded ball height should never exceed uncoupled ball height to avoid instability.
- Do not tow multiple trailers simultaneously.
- Ensure there is adequate clearance for spring bar chains when turning.
Warranty:
- Limited Lifetime Warranty: Covers material defects under normal use.
