Installation Instructions for Portable Electric Winch
Part Numbers:
- 70336
Tools Required:
- Wrenches (for mounting bolts)
- ANSI-approved eye protection and gloves
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Wiring the Winch:
- Remove the cover on the right side of the winch and plug the power cable into the designated socket.
- Route the power cord from the winch to the battery to avoid tangling or tripping hazards.
- Connect the BLACK clamp to the vehicle frame for grounding.
- Connect the RED clamp to the positive terminal on the vehicle’s battery.
- Set the remote control aside safely until ready for use. Plug it in only before operation and disconnect immediately afterward.
Mounting the Winch:
Permanent Mounting:
- Choose a location capable of sustaining the 2000 lbs pulling force.
- Mark and drill four holes using a drill bit slightly larger than the diameter of the bolts.
- Secure the winch using hardened steel bolts (minimum 3/8" diameter), flat washers, lock washers, and nuts.
- For boat trailers, ensure the winch is mounted slightly higher than the bow stop and far enough back to avoid pulling the cable hook into the housing.
Temporary Mounting on Hitch Ball:
- Slide the hitch ball mounting plate into the keyhole slots at the bottom of the winch.
- Place the mounting plate over the hitch ball and slide it onto the neck of the hitch ball.
- Support the winch until tension is applied to the cable.
Operating the Winch:
- For vehicle-mounted winches, apply the parking brake, block wheels, and put the vehicle in neutral.
- Turn the clutch knob clockwise to disengage the clutch.
- Pull out the required cable, ensuring a minimum of 3 wraps remain on the drum.
- Attach the hook to a secure pulling point (do not wrap the cable around the object).
- Engage the clutch by turning the knob counterclockwise.
- Ensure all bystanders are clear. Plug in the remote and slowly wind the cable by pressing the remote button.
- After pulling, release the cable tension and disconnect the remote.
Using the Manual Crank:
- Disconnect the power from the winch.
- Remove one lock nut from the clutch knob shaft and attach the handle.
- Reinstall the lock nut and tighten the cable by rotating the handle counterclockwise.
- Remove the manual crank when not in use.
Maintenance:
- Periodically lubricate the cable with light oil and grease the gears every six months.
- Inspect the entire system for damage before each use. Replace worn or damaged parts immediately.
- Store the cable on the drum when not in use.
Safety Notes:
- Do not exceed rated pulling capacities:
- 2000 lbs for straight pulling
- 5000 lbs for marine use
- 6000 lbs for rolling loads
- Always maintain three cable wraps on the drum.
- Wear gloves and safety gear when operating the winch.
- Stay out of the direct line of the cable in case of failure.
- Never use the winch for lifting people or as a hoist.
- Avoid using the manual crank simultaneously with the motorized operation.
