Installation Instructions for Jeep Compass (Rallye Package) and Jeep Patriot (Optional Tow Hook)

Tools Required:

• Wrenches: 22mm, 16mm (tow hook option)
• Drill Bits: 5/8” (only required for reinstalling tow hook on Patriot with optional tow hook)
• Cutting Tool: Required for trimming bumper fascia on Compass Rallye and 2011 & later Patriot/Compass.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Place M14 hex bolts into vehicle bushings from the outboard side of the frame rails. Leave bolt ends flush with the inboard side of frame rails.
2. Raise the hitch into position and push M14 hex bolts through hitch frame brackets to support the hitch.
3. Attach the remaining hardware as shown in the included diagrams.
4. For Compass Rallye Package: Use the hitch receiver tube as a guide to cut a 2 1/4” wide by 2” high section from the bumper fascia for ball mount clearance.
5. Raise the exhaust back into position if it was lowered before the hitch installation.

• Tighten all M14-2 fasteners to 100 lb-ft (136 N*m) using a torque wrench.

• 2011 models require a 2” vertical fascia trim, measured from the bottom of the fascia lip.

Installation Instructions for T-Connector Adapter for Dodge (Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Caliber, Durango) and Jeep Patriot

• Trim Panel Remover
• Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)
• Phillips Head Screwdriver
• Test Probe
• Wire Crimpers
• Wire Cutters
• Torx-30

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Remove the Taillight Assemblies:

   • Dodge Grand Caravan / Chrysler Town & Country / Dodge Durango:
     • Open the rear tailgate and remove the T-30 Torx screws securing the taillight housings.
     • Carefully pry the taillights away from the vehicle, being cautious not to break the alignment tabs.
   • Jeep Patriot / Dodge Caliber:
     • Open the tailgate and remove the clips holding the taillight assemblies.
     • Carefully pry the housings away from the vehicle, avoiding damage to alignment tabs.

2. Disconnect the Vehicle Wiring Harness:

   • Disconnect the vehicle wiring harness from both taillight sockets.
   • Plug the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the driver’s side taillight socket and the vehicle wiring harness.
   • Repeat this step for the T-Connector end with the green wire on the passenger side.

3. Route the T-Connector Wiring:

   • Route the T-Connector end with the green wire and the 4-flat connector down through the opening between the vehicle bumper and body.
   • Route the green wire to the passenger’s side and secure the 4-flat connector underneath the bumper.

4. Ground the White Wire:

   • Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector (do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed).
   • Clean the grounding area, drill a 3/32” hole, and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.

   Caution:

   • Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury.

5. Connect the Power Wire:

   • Disconnect the vehicle’s negative (-) battery cable.
   • Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder.
   • Attach the ring terminal to the vehicle’s positive (+) battery cable.
   • Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12-gauge wire using the provided yellow butt connector.

6. Route the Black Power Wire:

   • Starting at the front of the vehicle, route the black 12-gauge wire along the frame rail to the rear driver’s side.
   • Locate an opening between the vehicle rear bumper and body, and route the wire into the rear driver’s side taillight area.
   • Connect the black wire to the red wire from the T-Connector black box using the provided yellow butt connector.

7. Reconnect the Battery and Install Fuse:

   • Reconnect the vehicle’s negative (-) battery cable.
   • Install the 10-amp fuse into the fuse holder.

   Warning:

   • All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly.

8. Mount the Black Box:

   • Mount the T-Connector black box using the provided double-sided tape.
   • Ensure the epoxy side of the module is facing downward to prevent water accumulation.

9. Reinstall the Taillight Assemblies:

   • Reinstall the taillight housing assemblies, ensuring the vehicle wiring harness is positioned correctly.
   • Secure the remaining T-Connector harness under the bumper with the provided cable ties.

10. Test the Installation:

    • Test and verify the T-Connector functionality using a test light or trailer.

    Specifications:

    • Max. stop/turn light: 1 per side (2.1 amps)
    • Max. tail lights: (4.2 amps)

Safety Notes:

• Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer’s rating or the unit specifications.
