Installation Instructions for Mazda CX-5

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Support and Lower the Exhaust:
- Remove four (4) rubber hangers from the exhaust system to lower it.
- Support the exhaust to prevent it from falling under its own weight.
- Apply lubricant or soapy water to the metal hanger rods and rubber isolators to ease removal.

Remove Plastic Rivets:
- If present, remove plastic rivets fastening the fascia tabs to the vehicle.
- Use a flat head screwdriver to remove the center of the rivet.
- Retain the rivets for reinstallation.

Install Fasteners:
- Feed the coiled end of the pull wire through the forward attachment hole in the frame and out the access hole.
- Place a spacer onto the pull wire and thread a carriage bolt onto it.
- Pull the wire to position the fasteners through the frame hole.
- Leave the pull wire attached.
- Repeat for all required locations on both frame rails.

Position the Hitch:
- Raise the hitch above the exhaust and guide the pull wires through the attachment points on the hitch brackets.
- Pull the fascia rearward gently if necessary to access between the fascia and the exhaust hanger.

Install Remaining Fasteners:
- Use the conical washers (teeth side facing the hitch) to hold the bolts in place.
- Remove the pull wires and attach hex nuts to secure the hitch loosely.

Tighten All Fasteners:
- Use a torque wrench to tighten all 1/2"-13 GR5 fasteners to 75 lb-ft (102 N*m).
- A universal joint socket may be needed to tighten the rearward fasteners on both sides.

Reinstall the Exhaust:
- Raise the exhaust back into position and secure it with the rubber hangers.
- Apply lubricant or soapy water to ease the reinstallation process.

Reinstall Plastic Rivets:
- Replace any plastic rivets removed in Step 2.
Torque Specifications:
- 1/2"-13 GR5 bolts: 75 lb-ft (102 N*m)

- (4) Spacers, 0.250" x 1" x 3"

Installation Instructions for T-One® T-Connector for Mazda CX-5

- Wire Cutters

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare the Vehicle:
- Open the tailgate and remove the cargo door on the floor.
- Carefully remove the floor trim panels and access panels on each side of the vehicle.
- Set aside all items removed, being careful not to damage them.
-
Locate the Taillight Wiring Harness:
- On both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle, locate the vehicle’s taillight wiring harness inside the access panel area.
- The harness will have a connection point matching the ends of the T-One® Connector. Separate the connectors carefully, ensuring not to break the locking tabs. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt.

Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Insert the T-One® Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place.
- Be cautious not to damage the locking tabs and ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.

Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the T-One® Connector end with the green wire through the trim panel access hole, across the threshold, and through the passenger trim panel access hole.
- Repeat Step 3 for the passenger side using the T-One® Connector harness end with the green wire.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle’s frame or crossmember.
- Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area, drill a 3/32” hole, and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
Caution: Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to prevent damage or injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces.

Connect the Power Wire:
- On the driver’s side, locate the black 12-gauge power wire from the T-One® Connector black box.
- Attach the provided black wire and route it along the exterior frame or follow existing wiring into the engine compartment up to the battery.
- Avoid areas that may pinch or break the wire.
Warning: If routing the wire through a grommet and along the exterior, avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any points that may pinch or break the wire.

Connect to the Vehicle Battery:
- Disconnect the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery cable.
- Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder.
- Attach the ring terminal to the Positive (+) battery cable and connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12-gauge wire using the provided yellow butt connector.

Reconnect the Battery and Test:
- Reconnect the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery cable.
- Insert the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
- Test the installation with a test light or trailer.

Mount the Black Box Module:
- Locate a flat surface in an out-of-the-way place and mount the T-One® Connector’s black box module to prevent damage or rattling.

Secure the Wiring Harness:
- Use the provided cable ties to secure the T-One® Connector harness, avoiding areas that may pinch, cut, or melt the wire.

Store the 4-Flat Connector:
- Store the 4-flat connector in the spare tire compartment when not in use.
