- 10mm Socket & Ratchet or Wrench
- Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)
- 1/4” Socket
- Wire Crimpers
- Wire Cutters
- Phillips Head Screwdriver
- Test Probe
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Remove the Taillight Assemblies:
- On each side of the vehicle, locate the plastic cover between the taillights and trunk opening.
- Use a trim panel remover to carefully pull the cover, exposing the bolts holding the taillights.
- Remove the bolts (2 per side) using a Phillips head screwdriver or 10mm socket and gently pull the taillights away from the vehicle.
2. Access the Taillight Wiring Harness:
- From inside the trunk, temporarily remove the rear threshold plate and partially remove the felt trunk liner behind the taillights.
- Locate the grommet between the taillight pocket and trunk.
- Pull the vehicle's taillight wiring harness and unseat the grommet. Disconnect the harness from both taillight sockets and set the taillight housings aside.
3. Install the T-Connector:
- Route the T-Connector ends through the hole and into the taillight pocket. Reseat the grommet around the wires, leaving the 4-flat connector and black converter box in the cargo area.
4. Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the driver-side taillight socket and vehicle wiring connectors.
- Ensure all connectors are fully inserted and locking tabs are secure.
5. Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the T-Connector end with the green wire through the panels and along the threshold to the passenger side.
- Insert the T-Connector end with the green wire between the passenger-side taillight socket and vehicle wiring connectors.
6. Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle frame or crossmember.
- Clean the area to remove dirt and rustproofing.
- Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
Caution:
- Verify what is behind the surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury.
7. Connect the Power Wire:
- On the driver’s side, locate the black 12-gauge power wire from the T-Connector box.
- Attach the provided black wire and route it along the frame or existing wiring to the engine compartment.
Warning:
- Avoid routing near hot pipes, heat shields, or the fuel tank.
8. Connect to the Vehicle Battery:
- Disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable.
- Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder.
- Attach the ring terminal to the Positive (+) battery cable and secure it.
- Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black wire using the yellow butt connector.
9. Reconnect the Battery and Test:
- Reconnect the Negative (-) battery cable.
- Insert the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
- Test the installation with a test light or trailer. Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
10. Mount the Black Box Module:
- Locate a flat, out-of-the-way surface to mount the black box module to prevent damage or rattling.
11. Secure the Wiring Harness:
- Use the provided cable ties to secure the harness, avoiding areas that may pinch, cut, or melt the wire.
12. Reassemble the Vehicle:
- Replace the threshold, felt trunk liner, and any other components removed during installation.
13. Store the 4-Flat Connector:
- Store the 4-flat connector in the trunk area when not in use.
Safety Notes:
- Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed stated product ratings or vehicle manufacturer specifications.
- Always wear safety glasses and follow all safety precautions during installation.
