Installation Instructions for Mazda CX-9 (2016-Current)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove Lower Trim Panel:
- Remove plastic expanding fasteners and detach the lower trim panel.
- Return the panel to the vehicle owner.

Lower the Exhaust:
- Use exhaust removal pliers to pry off four (4) rubber exhaust hangers.
- Spray with soapy water to ease removal and ensure the exhaust system is properly supported during the process.

Fishwire Forward Bolts:
- Using the fishwire method, insert carriage bolts and spacer blocks through the access hole into the forward attachment holes.
- Leave the pull wires attached.

Fishwire Rearward Bolts:
- Using the reverse fishwire method, insert the carriage bolts and blocks into the rearward attachment holes.
- Leave the pull wires attached.

Install Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position and guide the fishwire ends through the attachment holes.
- Remove the pull wires and secure the hitch using conical washers (teeth side toward hitch) and 1/2" hex nuts.
- Ensure no wires or components are pinched between the hitch and the vehicle frame.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Use a torque wrench to tighten all hitch fasteners to 110 lb-ft (149 N·m).

Reinstall Exhaust Hangers:
- Raise the exhaust back into position and reinstall all exhaust hangers securely.

- (4) 1/2”-13 x 1.75” Grade 8 Carriage Bolts
- (4) 1/2” Conical Washers
- (4) 1/4” x 1” x 3” Spacer Blocks
- (4) 1/2”-13 Grade 8 Hex Nuts

- Frequently check the hitch to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened.
- If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent water and exhaust fumes from entering.

Installation Instructions for T-One® T-Connector for Mazda CX-9

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare the Vehicle:
- Open the rear tailgate and remove cargo nets and the cargo floor hatch to access the spare tire area.
- Temporarily remove all floor coverings to expose the spare tire compartment.

Remove the Threshold Plate:
- Using a trim panel tool, carefully pry the threshold plate away from the vehicle, being cautious not to damage any clips.

Remove Interior Trim Panels:
- Partially remove the lower interior trim panels on the passenger side of the vehicle only.
- Remove several trim panel fasteners to allow panel removal.

Connect the T-One® Harness:
- Locate the vehicle’s trailer tow plug behind the trim panel removed in Step 3.
- Insert the 8-pin tow plug adapter and lock it into place. Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate the existing ground stud near the tow plug connector.
- Loosen the nut, place the T-One® Connector’s white wire with the ring terminal on the stud, and retighten the nut.
- Ensure all existing ground connections are still attached.

Mount the Black Box Module:
- Locate a flat surface in an out-of-the-way place and mount the T-One® Connector’s black box module to prevent damage or rattling.

Secure the Wiring Harness:
- Use the provided cable ties to secure the T-One® Connector harness, avoiding areas that may pinch, cut, or melt the wire.

Reassemble the Vehicle:
- Reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and any other items removed during installation, ensuring no wires are pinched or damaged.

Test the Installation:
- Verify all connections are complete and test the installation with a test light or trailer.
- For the initial test, reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
