Installation Instructions for Honda Civic (Including SI & Hybrid Models)

Wiring Access Location:

Tools Required:

• Wrenches: 3/4", 9/16", 10mm
• Drill Bits: 1/2” (Required for some models)

Specifications:

• Max Gross Trailer Weight: 2,000 lb. (908 kg)
• Max Tongue Weight: 200 lb. (91 kg)
• Note: Do not exceed towing vehicle manufacturer’s rating.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Lower Exhaust:

   • Remove the tailpipe tangs from the rubber exhaust hanger at the rear of the vehicle.

2. Remove Heat Shield (Passenger Side):

   • Detach the four (4) bolts securing the exhaust heat shield to the vehicle. Retain the bolts for reinstallation.

3. Remove Plastic Shroud (Driver Side):

   • Remove the plastic rivet and nut holding the plastic shroud to the frame rail. Retain for reinstallation.

4. Position Hitch:

   • Raise the hitch into position with the frame bracket flanges positioned:
     • Between the frame rail and plastic shroud on the driver’s side.
     • Between the frame rail and exhaust heat shield on the passenger’s side.
   • Ensure tailpipe tangs are above the hitch bar. For some vehicles, remove the chrome decorative ring from the tailpipe to slide the muffler toward the vehicle center for better wrench access.

5. Install Handle Nuts and Fasteners:

   • Insert 1/2”-13 handle nuts through the large holes in the frame rails.
   • Install the provided fasteners as shown in the instructions.

6. Install U-Bolt:

   • Insert the 3/8”-16 U-bolt through the tow hook and mount it to the hitch using the provided fasteners.

7. Tighten Fasteners:

   • Torque all 1/2”-13 fasteners to 50 Lb.-Ft. (68 N*M).
   • Torque all 3/8”-16 fasteners to 20 Lb.-Ft. (27 N*M).

8. Reinstall Components:

   • Reinstall the exhaust heat shield over the hitch.
   • Reattach the exhaust to its hanger.
   • Replace the plastic rivet and nut securing the plastic shroud on the driver’s side.
   • Trim the heat shield if required to fit around the hitch.
   • Reinstall the chrome decorative ring to the tailpipe, if removed.

• (1) 3/8”-16 GR2 U-Bolt

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Lower Exhaust:

   • Remove the tailpipe tangs from the rubber exhaust hanger at the rear of the vehicle.

2. Remove Heat Shield (Passenger Side):

   • Detach the four (4) bolts securing the exhaust heat shield to the vehicle. Retain the bolts for reinstallation.

3. Remove Plastic Shroud (Driver Side):

   • Remove the plastic rivet and nut holding the plastic shroud to the frame rail. Retain for reinstallation.

4. Position Hitch:

   • Raise the hitch into position with the frame bracket flanges positioned:
     • Between the frame rail and plastic shroud on the driver’s side.
     • Between the frame rail and exhaust heat shield on the passenger’s side.
   • Ensure tailpipe tangs are above the hitch bar. For some vehicles, remove the chrome decorative ring from the tailpipe to slide the muffler toward the vehicle center for better wrench access.

5. Install Handle Nuts and Fasteners:

   • Insert 1/2”-13 handle nuts through the large holes in the frame rails.
   • Install the provided fasteners as shown in the instructions.

6. Install U-Bolt:

   • Insert the 3/8”-16 U-bolt through the tow hook and mount it to the hitch using the provided fasteners.

7. Tighten Fasteners:

   • Torque all 1/2”-13 fasteners to 50 Lb.-Ft. (68 N*M).
   • Torque all 3/8”-16 fasteners to 20 Lb.-Ft. (27 N*M).

8. Reinstall Components:

   • Reinstall the exhaust heat shield over the hitch.
   • Reattach the exhaust to its hanger.
   • Replace the plastic rivet and nut securing the plastic shroud on the driver’s side.
   • Trim the heat shield if required to fit around the hitch.
   • Reinstall the chrome decorative ring to the tailpipe, if removed.

Installation Instructions for T-Connector Adapter for Honda Civic

Part Numbers:

Tools Required:

• Trim Panel Remover
• Drill with 3/32” Drill Bit
• Philips Head Screwdriver
• Test Probe

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Access the Rear Cargo Area:

   • Open the trunk and temporarily remove the rear threshold plate.
   • Partially remove the felt trunk liner behind the taillights.

2. Locate the Taillight Wiring Harness:

   • On both the driver’s and passenger’s sides of the vehicle, locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness.
   • Disconnect the connectors carefully to avoid breaking the locking tabs. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt.

3. Install the Driver-Side T-Connector:

   • Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow, brown, and red wires between the vehicle wiring connectors on the driver’s side.
   • Ensure the connectors are fully inserted and the locking tabs are secure.

4. Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:

   • Route the T-Connector end with the green wire to the passenger side behind the panels and along the threshold.
   • Repeat Step 3 on the passenger’s side using the T-Connector with the green wire.

5. Ground the White Wire:

   • Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle’s frame or crossmember.
   • Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area.
   • Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
   • Caution: Verify what is behind the surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury.

6. Mount the T-Connector Black Box:

   • In the driver’s side storage area, clean a flat area using a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water.
   • Mount the T-Connector black box using the provided double-sided tape.

7. Route and Store the 4-Flat Connector:

   • Route the 4-flat connector from below the threshold plate into the trunk.
   • Store the connector in the trunk when not in use.

8. Reassemble the Vehicle:

   • Reinstall the felt trunk liner, threshold, and other items removed during installation.
   • Be careful not to pinch or cut the wires.

9. Test the Installation:

   • Test and verify the T-Connector functionality using a test light or trailer.
   • For the initial test, reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.

   Specifications:

   • Max. stop/turn light: 1 per side (2.1 amps)
   • Max. tail lights: (5 amps)
