Installation Instructions for 2018-Current Volkswagen Tiguan

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Vehicles with Existing Weldnuts:

Remove Underbody Panel (if present):
- Use a T20 star driver to remove 5 screws from the underbody panel.
- Use a 10 mm socket to loosen 2 nuts and carefully remove the panel. Return it to the owner.

Trim Bumper Fascia:
- Use a tape measure and marker to find the center of the fascia.
- Mark a centerline and trim as shown in Figures 2 and 3. Do not trim away the bottom edge.

Lower Exhaust and Remove Fasteners:
- Use a 13 mm socket to remove 2 bolts from each rear exhaust hanger bracket (1 per side). Ensure the exhaust is supported after lowering.
- Use a 16 mm socket to remove 4 M10x1.5x40 mm bolts from the frame rails (2 per side).

Install Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position over the exhaust. Align the hitch holes with the vehicle’s existing weldnuts.
- Reuse the bolts removed earlier and tighten to 53 ft-lbs (72 N*m).

Reinstall Exhaust:
- Raise the exhaust into position and reinstall the bolts removed from the hangers.
Vehicles without Existing Weldnuts:

Perform Steps 1-2 Above:
- Follow the same instructions for removing the underbody panel and trimming the fascia.

Install Hitch Using Pull Wires:
- Use pull wires to feed carriage bolts and spacers through the access holes on both sides (see Figures 4 and 5).
- Raise the hitch into position and align it with the frame rails.
- Remove the pull wires and loosely install conical washers (teeth side toward hitch) and hex nuts.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Tighten all 7/16” fasteners to 50 ft-lbs (68 N*m).

Reinstall Exhaust:
- Raise the exhaust back into position and reinstall the bolts removed from the hangers.
Hardware List:
- (4) Carriage Bolt 7/16”-14 x 1.75” GR5
- (4) Spacer 0.875” x 2.00” x 0.109”
- (4) Conical Washer 7/16”
- (4) Hex Nut 7/16”-14 GR2
- (4) Pull Wire 7/16”

Installation Instructions for T-One® T-Connector for Volkswagen Tiguan

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare the Vehicle:
- Open the rear hatch and locate the vehicle wiring inside the cargo area by partially removing the plastic threshold cover, side panels, and cargo trays.

Locate the Taillight Wiring Harness:
- On both driver and passenger sides, locate the taillight wiring harness.
- Disconnect the connectors carefully, ensuring not to damage the locking tabs. Clean all connector surfaces to remove dirt.

Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Insert the T-One® Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle wiring connectors on the driver’s side.
- Ensure all connectors are fully inserted and locking tabs are secure.

Mount the Black Box:
- Mount the T-One® Connector black box on the driver’s side using the double-sided tape provided.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud.
- Drill a 3/32” hole if necessary and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw. Clean the grounding area to remove dirt and rustproofing.
Caution: Verify what is behind the surface before drilling to prevent damage or injury.

Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the connector containing the green wire along the threshold to the passenger side of the vehicle.

Connect the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Insert the T-One® Connector end with the green wire between the vehicle wiring connectors on the passenger side.
- Ensure all connectors are fully inserted and secure.

Connect the Power Wire:
- Locate the black 12-gauge power wire from the T-One® Connector box on the driver’s side.
- Attach the provided black wire and route it along the vehicle’s exterior frame to the engine compartment.
- Avoid hot pipes, heat shields, or areas that may pinch or damage the wire.
Warning: Be cautious when routing the wire through a grommet and along the exterior of the vehicle to avoid hazards.

Connect to the Vehicle Battery:
- Disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable.
- Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder. Attach the ring terminal to the Positive (+) battery cable and secure it.
- Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black wire using the provided yellow butt connector.

Reconnect the Battery and Test:
- Reconnect the Negative (-) battery cable and insert the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
- Test the installation using a test light or trailer.

Secure the Wiring Harness:
- Use the provided cable ties to secure the T-One® Connector harness.
- Avoid areas that may pinch, cut, or melt the wire.

Reassemble the Vehicle:
- Reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, and other components removed during installation.
