Installation Instructions for T-One® T-Connector for Acura RDX
Part Numbers:
- 118800
Tools Required:
- Trim Panel Remover
- 10mm Socket & Ratchet or 10mm Wrench
- Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)
- 1/4” Socket
- Wire Crimpers
- Wire Cutters
- Phillips Head Screwdriver
- Test Probe
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Prepare the Vehicle:
- Open the rear hatch. Temporarily remove the rear threshold plate, privacy screen, storage covers, and floor covering.
- Open the rear door and fold the rear seat forward.
- Carefully remove the lower interior trim panels on the driver’s side to expose the wiring harness. Set aside all removed items safely.
2. Locate the Vehicle’s 8-Pin Connector:
- Locate the vehicle’s 8-pin connector behind the rear interior trim panel on the driver’s side.
- Inspect the connector for two separate red wires. If only one red wire is present, use T-One® part number 118804 instead.
3. Connect the T-One® T-Connector:
- Insert the 8-pin tow-plug adapter into the vehicle’s connector and lock it in place securely.
4. Ground the White Wire:
- Option 1: Locate an existing ground stud on the driver’s side. Loosen the bolt, place the screw eyelet on the stud, and retighten the bolt. Ensure all other ground connections are secure.
- Option 2: Find a suitable grounding point, such as the vehicle’s frame or crossmember. Clean the area of dirt and rustproofing. Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
Caution:
- Verify what is behind the surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
5. Mount the Black Box:
- Locate a flat surface in an out-of-the-way place and mount the T-One® T-Connector’s black box using the provided double-sided tape to prevent damage or rattling.
6. Secure the Wiring Harness:
- Use the provided cable ties to secure the remaining T-One® T-Connector harness, avoiding areas that could pinch, cut, or melt the wires.
7. Reassemble the Vehicle:
- Reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold plate, storage covers, and other items removed during the installation.
- Ensure no wires are pinched or damaged during reassembly.
8. Store the 4-Flat Connector:
- Store the 4-flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use.
- When in use, pull the connector through the rear door and close the door carefully, ensuring not to pinch the harness in the door latch.
9. Test the Installation:
- All connections must be complete for the T-One® T-Connector to function properly.
- Test the installation using a test light or trailer.
- For the initial test, reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Safety Notes:
- Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed the stated product ratings.
- Always wear safety glasses and follow safety precautions during installation.
- Refer to the vehicle owner’s manual and instruction sheet for additional information.
