Step-by-Step Instructions:
Remove Fascia:
- Open the liftgate.
- Remove the plastic covers next to the taillights by pulling upward to release the clips.
- Using a T20 Torx bit, remove the screws connecting the fascia to the vehicle on both sides.
- Use plastic trim tools to remove the wheel well trim. Pull the trim back enough to access the screw located behind it.
- Remove the screw behind the wheel well trim using a 7mm socket.
- Use a T15 Torx bit to remove screws from the wheel well liner, then pull the liner back from the fascia.
- Remove the hitch access panel in the middle of the fascia. Use a T15 Torx bit to remove screws holding the bottom of the fascia.
- Starting from the wheel wells, carefully pull the fascia away from the vehicle, working toward the middle. Use plastic trim tools to release clips as needed.
- Caution: Be extra careful around the taillight area. Masking the bottom of the taillight is recommended to avoid scratches. Unplug electrical connectors behind the fascia and set it aside.
Lower Exhaust:
- Support the exhaust to prevent damage. Remove the two M10 factory bolts from the exhaust hangers on both sides using a 15mm socket.
Remove Bumper Beam:
- Use a 15mm socket to remove four 10mm factory nuts (two on each side). Set the bumper beam aside for reinstallation.
Install Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position, aligning its holes with the M10 studs on the vehicle's end panel.
- Reinstall the bumper beam over the hitch and onto the M10 studs.
- Loosely reinstall the factory M10 nuts removed earlier.
Reinstall Exhaust Hangers:
- Raise the exhaust back into position and reinstall the M10 factory bolts removed earlier through the exhaust hangers, bumper, and hitch.
Tighten Fasteners:
- Torque all M10 fasteners to 53 lb-ft (72 N·m).
Reinstall Fascia:
- Reverse the steps in the "Remove Fascia" section to reinstall the fascia and taillight covers.
- Note: The fascia has a removable panel for hitch usage, which can be replaced when the hitch is not in use.
Safety Notes:
- Always inspect all fasteners periodically to ensure the hitch is secure.
- If the hitch is removed, plug any holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent water or exhaust fume entry.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- Wear safety glasses and observe all safety precautions when working under the vehicle.
