Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Remove Tie-Down Bracket:
- Use a 17mm socket to remove the tie-down bracket from the passenger side frame rail. Return the bracket to the vehicle owner.
2. Lower Exhaust:
- Use a 12mm wrench to remove two bolts from the exhaust bracket on each side.
- Use exhaust removal pliers to remove the rubber isolators from two brackets forward of the muffler.
- Support the exhaust system to prevent damage.
3. Remove Heat Shield:
- Use a 10mm socket to remove the nuts securing the heat shield.
4. Remove Hole Plugs:
- Use a flat head screwdriver to remove plugs from the frame rails in the area of the hitch.
5. Remove Fascia Brackets:
- Use a 10mm socket to remove one bolt and two nuts to remove brackets from the rear edge of the fascia.
6. Trim Fascia:
- Use a die grinder or suitable cutting tool to trim the center tab of the bumper fascia according to the diagram.
7. Enlarge Holes:
- Use a 1/2" drill bit to enlarge the rearmost attachment hole in the bottom of the driver-side frame rail.
- Use a step drill bit to enlarge the forward attachment hole to 1" for fastener installation.
8. Install Fasteners:
- Using the wireform procedure, install the supplied carriage bolts and spacers.
- Place two bolts in the driver-side frame and one bolt in the passenger-side frame. Keep wireforms attached.
9. Install Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position and align the attachment holes in the hitch with the bolts and weldnuts in the vehicle frame.
- Remove excessive caulk/sealant that may interfere with the hitch.
10. Install Fasteners:
- Loosely install the supplied M12 bolt and 1/2" conical washer with teeth side toward the hitch.
- Carefully remove wireforms and install the supplied 7/16" hex nuts and 7/16" conical washers (teeth side toward the hitch) onto the carriage bolts.
11. Torque Fasteners:
- Use a torque wrench to tighten all M12 fasteners to 68 lb-ft (92 N·m) and all 7/16" fasteners to 50 lb-ft (68 N·m).
12. Reinstall Fascia Brackets:
- Reinstall the fascia brackets removed in Step 5.
13. Reinstall Heat Shield:
- Reinstall the heat shield removed in Step 3.
14. Reinstall Exhaust:
- Raise the exhaust into position and reinstall bolts removed earlier.
- Reinstall the rubber isolators removed earlier.
Safety Notes:
- Regularly inspect the hitch and all fasteners for secure attachment.
- Plug all holes in the trunk pan or body panels if the hitch is removed to prevent water or exhaust entry.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- Always wear safety glasses and observe precautions when working beneath the vehicle.
- Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.

Installation Instructions for Modulite® HD Protector Vehicle Wiring

- Phillips Head #2 Screwdriver
- Wire Cutters
- Wire Strippers/Wire Crimpers
- Tester or Volt Meter
- Socket & Ratchet Set

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Tow Vehicle Inputs - Determination:
- Disconnect and isolate the vehicle's negative battery terminal.
- Warning: Read and follow all warnings and instructions on the tow vehicle's battery.
- Splice the tow harness input wires to the vehicle as determined.
- Caution: Use appropriate gauge wire splices. Blue taps are for 16-18 gauge wires only.
Harness Installation:
- Determine the mounting location of the module and secure it using the double-sided tape provided.
- Warning: Mount the module with the epoxy side pointed towards the ground to prevent water buildup.
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the module, such as an existing ground stud, or drill a 3/32” hole to secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
- Caution: Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or personal injury.
- Route the power wire to the vehicle’s positive battery terminal. Use the provided fuse holder, butt connector, and ring terminal to connect to the battery.
- Do not insert the 15 amp fuse yet.
- Caution: Ensure the module is connected to a constant power source and avoid routing the wire near hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or pinch points.
Completion:
- Secure the harness with cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling.
- Reconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable.
- Insert the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder and close the cap.
- Test the installation using a test light or trailer. Check each function independently and in combination.
