Installation Instructions for Honda Civic (Including SI & Hybrid Models)

• Drill Bits: 1/2” (Required for some models)

Specifications:

• Max Gross Trailer Weight: 2,000 lb. (908 kg)
• Max Tongue Weight: 200 lb. (91 kg)
• Note: Do not exceed towing vehicle manufacturer’s rating.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Lower Exhaust:

   • Remove the tailpipe tangs from the rubber exhaust hanger at the rear of the vehicle.

2. Remove Heat Shield (Passenger Side):

   • Detach the four (4) bolts securing the exhaust heat shield to the vehicle. Retain the bolts for reinstallation.

3. Remove Plastic Shroud (Driver Side):

   • Remove the plastic rivet and nut holding the plastic shroud to the frame rail. Retain for reinstallation.

4. Position Hitch:

   • Raise the hitch into position with the frame bracket flanges positioned:
     • Between the frame rail and plastic shroud on the driver’s side.
     • Between the frame rail and exhaust heat shield on the passenger’s side.
   • Ensure tailpipe tangs are above the hitch bar. For some vehicles, remove the chrome decorative ring from the tailpipe to slide the muffler toward the vehicle center for better wrench access.

5. Install Handle Nuts and Fasteners:

   • Insert 1/2”-13 handle nuts through the large holes in the frame rails.
   • Install the provided fasteners as shown in the instructions.

6. Install U-Bolt:

   • Insert the 3/8”-16 U-bolt through the tow hook and mount it to the hitch using the provided fasteners.

7. Tighten Fasteners:

   • Torque all 1/2”-13 fasteners to 50 Lb.-Ft. (68 N*M).
   • Torque all 3/8”-16 fasteners to 20 Lb.-Ft. (27 N*M).

8. Reinstall Components:

   • Reinstall the exhaust heat shield over the hitch.
   • Reattach the exhaust to its hanger.
   • Replace the plastic rivet and nut securing the plastic shroud on the driver’s side.
   • Trim the heat shield if required to fit around the hitch.
   • Reinstall the chrome decorative ring to the tailpipe, if removed.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Lower Exhaust:

5. Install Handle Nuts and Fasteners:

   • Insert 1/2”-13 handle nuts through the large holes in the frame rails.
   • Install the provided fasteners as shown in the instructions.

6. Install U-Bolt:

   • Insert the 3/8”-16 U-bolt through the tow hook and mount it to the hitch using the provided fasteners.

7. Tighten Fasteners:

   • Torque all 1/2”-13 fasteners to 50 Lb.-Ft. (68 N*M).
   • Torque all 3/8”-16 fasteners to 20 Lb.-Ft. (27 N*M).

8. Reinstall Components:

   • Reinstall the exhaust heat shield over the hitch.
   • Reattach the exhaust to its hanger.
   • Replace the plastic rivet and nut securing the plastic shroud on the driver’s side.
   • Trim the heat shield if required to fit around the hitch.
   • Reinstall the chrome decorative ring to the tailpipe, if removed.

Installation Instructions for T-Connector Adapter for Honda Fit, Honda Civic 4 Door, Honda Accord Sedan and Mazda 3

Tools Required:

• Phillips head screwdriver
• Trim panel remover
• Drill with 3/32” drill bit
• 1/4” socket

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Access the Rear Cargo Area:

   • Open the trunk or hatch and locate the vehicle’s wiring inside the rear cargo area.
   • Remove the plastic threshold cover, side access panels, carpet panels, and cargo trays as needed.
   • Locate the connection points matching the ends of the T-Connector adapter on the back of each taillight housing.
   • Separate the connectors carefully, ensuring no damage to the locking tabs. Clean all surfaces to remove dirt.

   Note for 2007-2008 Honda Fit:

   • Use the vehicle’s blue 3-pin housing, NOT the green 3-pin housing.

2. Connect the Driver’s Side T-Connector:

   • Attach the T-Connector ends containing the yellow, brown, and red wires to the driver’s side taillight wiring.
   • Ensure connectors are fully inserted and the locking tabs are secure.

3. Route to the Passenger Side:

   • Route the T-Connector end containing the green wire below the threshold cover to the passenger’s side taillight housing.
   • Repeat step 2 for the passenger’s side using the green wire.

4. Ground the White Wire:

   • Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud.
   • If needed, drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw. Avoid drilling into the vehicle floor or bed. Clean the grounding surface to remove dirt and rustproofing.

   Caution:

   • Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or personal injury.
   • Do not drill into exposed surfaces.

5. Reinstall Trim and Panels:

   • Replace all removed plastic trim panels, the threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and other items.
   • Be careful not to pinch or cut the wires during reassembly.

6. Test the Installation:

   • Verify all connections are complete for proper functionality.
   • Use a test light or trailer to confirm the T-Connector is working properly.

7. Store the 4-Flat Connector:

   • When not in use, store the 4-flat connector in the trunk or hatch area.

   Specifications:

   • Max. stop/turn light: 1 per side (2.1 amps)
   • Max. tail lights: (5 amps)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Access the Rear Cargo Area:

   • Open the trunk or hatch and remove any plastic threshold covers, side access panels, carpet panels, or cargo trays as needed.
   • Locate the vehicle’s taillight wiring connectors behind the trim panels on both the driver’s and passenger’s sides.
   • Carefully disconnect the vehicle’s wiring connectors, ensuring not to damage the locking tabs.
   • Clean the connectors to remove dirt or debris.

   Note for 2007-2008 Honda Fit:

   • Use the blue 3-pin housing for the connection, NOT the green 3-pin housing.

2. Install the Driver’s Side T-Connector:

   • Connect the T-Connector with the yellow, brown, and red wires to the driver’s side taillight wiring harness.
   • Ensure the connectors are fully inserted and the locking tabs are secure.

3. Route the T-Connector to the Passenger Side:

   • Route the T-Connector end with the green wire underneath the threshold cover to the passenger’s side.
   • Repeat Step 2 on the passenger’s side using the T-Connector with the green wire.

4. Ground the White Wire:

   • Locate a suitable grounding point near the connection, such as an existing ground stud.
   • If a ground stud is unavailable, drill a 3/32” hole in a suitable metal surface.
   • Secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.

   Caution:

   • Avoid drilling into the vehicle’s floor, bed, or any surface with components behind it.
   • Verify the area before drilling to prevent damage or injury.

5. Reinstall the Trim Panels:

   • Replace the plastic trim panels, threshold, cargo trays, storage covers, and other components removed earlier.
   • Ensure the wiring is not pinched or cut during reassembly.

6. Test the Installation:

   • Use a test light or trailer to confirm that the T-Connector is working properly.
   • Verify the functionality of the following:
     • Left Turn Signal
     • Right Turn Signal
     • Brake Lights
     • Running Lights

7. Store the 4-Flat Connector:

   • When not in use, store the 4-flat connector in the vehicle’s trunk or cargo area.
