Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Remove all but a thin film of undercoating from the frame at the hitch mounting location. Ensure attaching surfaces are free of weld spatter and other obstructions.
- Raise the hitch into position on the frame rails, ensuring it is centered. Position the hitch so the mounting plates are approximately 1" from the end of the frame. Use the hitch as a template to drill four holes in the frame. Drill holes near the bumper as close to the vehicle center as possible.
- Fishwire carriage bolts and blocks into the mounting locations.
- Install spacers between the vehicle frame and hitch as needed to level the hitch assembly. For wagon applications, use the provided wedge block spacer.
- For 1984 and later Lincoln Town Car models, use two spacer blocks at the mounting locations near the bumper and one spacer block at the forward mounting locations.
- Attach flange nuts to all mounting bolts after placing proper spacers.
- If required, attach the exhaust hanger bracket to the passenger-side mounting plate using the provided hardware. Use washers to level the exhaust hanger on the mounting plate.
- Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 lb-ft.
Additional Notes:
- For 1995, 2003, and later Lincoln Town Car models, remove the external dress panel beneath the vehicle for hitch installation. Return the panel to the vehicle owner.
- On 2003 and later Lincoln Town Car models, relocate the passenger-side exhaust hanger bracket. Rotate the bumper hanger and reattach it to the hanger bracket before attaching the assembly to the hitch mounting plate.
Important Notes:
- Drilling is required for installation.
- For models with dual exhaust, relocation of the exhaust pipe hanger is required to provide clearance.
