Installation Instructions for 2007-Present Mini Cooper Hard Top and 2009 Mini Cooper Convertible with Single Exhaust
Excludes Clubman, "S", and John Cooper Editions

Tools Required:
- Ratchet
- Torque Wrench
- 12" Extension
- 13mm Socket
- 8mm Socket
- Offset Screwdriver
- Flat Blade Screwdriver
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Remove Bumper Cover
-
Remove Fasteners:
- Remove (11) fasteners securing the bumper cover.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove (4) mud flap fasteners and (4) clips.
- Optional: Remove rear wheels for easier access.

Remove Hex Head Fasteners:
- Inside the wheel wells, remove (2) hex head fasteners (one on each side).
- Pull back the wheel well liner to access and remove (2) push fasteners.

Release Side Marker Bulbs:
- Pull the fender flares away from the bumper cover.
- Release the side marker bulbs and remove the hidden fasteners.

Remove Underbody Fasteners:
- Remove the (1) 10mm fastener under the bumper cover.
- Remove the final (2) fasteners located near the rear hatch.

Disconnect Electrical Components:
- Disconnect any rear sensors or rear lights, if present.
- Carefully remove the bumper cover and place it in a safe location.
Modify Components

Trim Hard Foam Energy Absorber (if present):
- Trim the foam energy absorber as required for hitch clearance. Refer to the Foam Trim Diagram for dimensions.

Remove Bumper Beam:
- Remove the (8) M8 bolts securing the bumper beam.
- Detach the wiring harness from the bumper beam and set it aside.
Install the Hitch

Raise Hitch into Position:
- Sandwich the hitch between the bumper beam and the rear of the car.

Secure Hitch and Bumper Beam:
- Reinstall the bumper beam using the (8) M8 bolts removed earlier.
- Use the supplied 3/8" conical toothed washers to secure the hitch.

Torque Fasteners:
- Torque all M8 fasteners to 23 lb-ft.
Reassemble Vehicle

Reconnect Wiring Harness:
- Secure the wiring harness back to the bumper beam and ensure it is clear of the exhaust and hitch.

Reinstall Bumper Cover:
- Align the bumper cover and reattach the side marker bulbs.
- Secure the bumper cover with the previously removed fasteners.

Reattach Fender Flares and Mud Flaps:
- Reinstall the mud flaps, wheel well liners, and all clips.

Final Check:
- Verify the hitch installation and ensure all components are reattached securely.

- (8) M8 Bolts (existing hardware)
- (8) 3/8" Conical Toothed Washers
Safety Notes:
- Periodically check this receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and structural components are sound.
