Step-by-Step Process:
Step 1: Open the Hatch
- Open the vehicle's hatch and lift the storage lid (A, B).
- Locate the access panel on the driver's side rear trim panel (C).
Step 2: Remove the Access Panel
- Remove the access panel to reveal the vehicle's electrical junction box (D).
Step 3: Route the Harness
- Starting in the cargo area on the driver's side, route the white housing end of the harness under the trim panel and up to the junction box.
- Insert the white housing of the wiring harness into the receptacle in the junction box (E).
Step 4: Install Fuses
- In the electrical junction box, locate the two fuse placements.
- Insert the 10-amp low profile fuse into position 2.
- Insert the 7.5-amp low profile fuse into position 11 (E).
Step 5: Ground the White Wire
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame.
- If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw.
- Clean the grounding area of rust, dirt, or paint, and secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw (F).
Step 6: Mount the Converter Box
- Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle.
- Adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape (G).
Step 7: Route the 4-Flat Connector
- When in use, route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle.
- When not in use, roll it up and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location (H).
- Secure loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Step 8: Install the Fuse
- Install the 10-amp fuse provided into the red fuse holder located on the product wiring harness.
Step 9: Reassemble and Test
- Reinstall all items removed during the installation process.
- Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
- Test the wiring harness by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
Safety Notes:
- Ensure the battery connection is fuse-protected (10-amp max).
- Verify proper function after installation to avoid overheating or fire.
- Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
- Check for hidden items behind or under surfaces before drilling to avoid damage or injury.
