Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Disconnect the Battery
- Locate the vehicle battery, typically in the rear of the vehicle. Refer to the owner’s manual if necessary.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety during installation. Secure the cable away from the battery.
Step 2: Remove Trunk Floor Coverings
- Open the vehicle's tailgate to access the work area.
- Remove all trunk floor coverings and storage trays.
Step 3: Remove the Rear Scuff Panel
- Remove the fasteners securing the scuff panel.
- Pull out on the bottom of the scuff panel, then lift it upward to remove it. Be cautious not to damage the alignment tabs.
Step 4: Remove the Driver-Side Trim Panel
- Remove the fasteners securing the interior side trim panel on the driver side.
- Carefully remove the panel to access the taillight wiring connectors.
Step 5: Access the Driver-Side Wiring Harness
- Locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors behind the removed trim panel.
- Carefully disconnect the connectors from the taillight housing, ensuring the locking tabs are not damaged.
Step 6: Install the Custom Wiring Harness (Driver Side)
- Insert the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire between the separated vehicle connectors.
- Ensure the connectors are fully inserted and the locking tabs are securely in place.
Step 7: Install the Passenger-Side Wiring Harness
- Route the T-connector end with the green wire over to the passenger side, past the battery compartment.
- Repeat Steps 4–6 to connect the green wire to the taillight wiring on the passenger side.
Step 8: Mount the Converter Box
- Locate a flat, clean spot inside the vehicle near the taillight.
- Use the provided double-sided tape to securely adhere the black converter box to this location.
Step 9: Route and Connect the Power Wire
- Route the black power wire from the converter box to the vehicle battery.
- Refer to the included "Powered Converter Lead Instruction Sheet" for detailed routing guidance.
- Use cable ties to secure the wire along its route, avoiding sharp edges, pinch points, and moving parts.
Step 10: Secure the Ground Wire
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the wiring connection, such as an existing screw or bolt in the vehicle frame.
- If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole in a clean, rust-free, and paint-free area.
- Attach the white ground wire using the provided ring terminal and screw.
Safety Note: Before drilling, inspect the area to ensure no hidden components are present to avoid damage or injury.
Step 11: Position the 4-Flat Connector
- Route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle for trailer connection when in use.
- When not in use, roll up the connector and store it in a secure, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk.
- Use the provided cable ties to secure any loose wires.
Step 12: Finalize Installation
- Reinstall all panels, trim, and covers removed during the installation process.
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Attach the provided 4-flat dust cover to protect the connector from dirt and corrosion.
