Installation Instructions for Mazda CX-9 SUV (2016-Present)

Tools Required:
- Ratchet

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Remove the Lower Trim Panel
- Use a flathead screwdriver to remove two plastic fasteners securing the lower trim panel.
- Use a 10mm socket to remove two hex nuts.
- Return the trim panel to the owner.
Step 2: Lower the Exhaust
- Remove four rubber exhaust hangers using exhaust removal pliers or a similar method.
- Ensure the exhaust is properly supported during this step.
Step 3: Fishwire Forward-Most Bolts
- Fishwire one 1/2" carriage bolt and one square hole spacer through the access hole into the forward-most hole in each frame rail.
- Leave the fishwires attached.
Step 4: Reverse Fishwire Rearward Bolts
- Reverse fishwire one 1/2" carriage bolt and one square hole spacer through the access hole into each frame rail.
- Leave the fishwires attached.
Step 5: Install the Hitch
- Raise the hitch into position, guiding the fishwire ends through the attachment holes.
- Remove the fishwires and secure the hitch using 1/2" hex flange nuts.
Step 6: Torque the Hardware
- Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 ft-lbs.
- Raise the exhaust back into position and reinstall the exhaust hangers.

- (2) 1/2-13 UNC Carriage Bolts, 1-1/2"
- (2) 1/2-13 UNC Hex Flange Nuts
- (2) .250 x 1.00 x 3.00" Square Hole Spacers

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Disconnect Battery:
- Locate the vehicle battery on the driver side under the hood.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Prepare Cargo Area:
- Open the rear hatch.
- Remove the floor coverings and storage trays on the passenger side.

Remove Rear Scuff Panel:
- Use a panel trim removal tool to carefully pry and remove the rear scuff panel.
- Take care not to damage the alignment tabs on the back.

Remove Tire Jack and Cargo Loops:
- Unscrew and remove the tire jack.
- Using a 10mm socket, remove the cargo loops from the rear trim panel.

Access Vehicle Connector:
- Use a pry tool to gently pull back on the rear trim panel, ensuring not to damage the locking tabs.
- Locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connector behind the panel.
- The connector will be similar to the one on the custom wiring connector.

Connect Custom Wiring Harness:
- Insert the custom wiring connector into the vehicle's connector.
- Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.

Mount Converter Box:
- Find a flat spot behind the side trim panel.
- Adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
- Secure any loose parts of the wiring connector with the provided cable ties.

Position 4-Flat Connector:
- When in use, route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle.
- When not in use, roll up and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location.
- Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.

Reassemble Vehicle Components:

- Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
