Installation Instructions for Jeep Compass
Part Number:
- 56369
Wiring Access Locations:
- S1: Behind driver side taillight housing
- S2: Behind passenger side taillight housing
Tools Required:
- Ratchet
- 10mm socket
- Phillips screwdriver
- Flat blade screwdriver
Step-by-Step Instructions:
-
Disconnect Battery:
- Locate the vehicle battery on the driver side under the hood.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
-
Remove Taillight Assemblies:
- Open the vehicle's rear hatch.
- Using a 10mm socket, remove the screws securing the driver side taillight assembly.
- Gently pull the taillight assembly rearward to disengage it from the vehicle body.
- Disconnect the wiring harness from the taillight assembly by pressing the release tab and pulling the connector apart.
- Repeat this process for the passenger side taillight assembly.
-
Install T-Connector:
- On the driver side, take the T-connector with the yellow wire and insert it between the separated vehicle wiring connectors. Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
- Route the T-connector end with the green wire down through the opening behind the driver side taillight and across to the passenger side, following the vehicle frame or bumper structure. Secure the wire with cable ties to prevent sagging or contact with moving parts.
- On the passenger side, insert the T-connector with the green wire between the separated vehicle wiring connectors. Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
-
Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the driver side taillight area, such as an existing bolt or screw in the vehicle frame.
- If no suitable grounding point is available, drill a 3/32" pilot hole and secure the white ground wire using the provided ring terminal and self-tapping screw. Ensure the grounding area is free of rust, dirt, and paint for a solid electrical connection.
-
Mount the Converter Box:
- Choose a flat, clean surface inside the driver side rear quarter panel cavity to mount the black converter box.
- Use the provided double-sided tape to adhere the converter box securely. Ensure the location is out of the path of moving parts and protected from moisture.
-
Connect to Power:
- Route the black power wire from the converter box along the vehicle frame towards the engine compartment, avoiding areas that may pinch or damage the wire.
- Use existing grommets or drill a small hole to pass the wire through the firewall into the engine compartment. If drilling, protect the wire with a grommet or silicone sealant to prevent chafing.
- Attach the fuse holder to the black power wire using a butt connector.
- Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the positive terminal of the vehicle battery using the provided ring terminal. Do not insert the fuse into the holder at this time.
-
Test the Installation:
- Reinstall the taillight assemblies by reconnecting the wiring harnesses and securing them with the original screws.
- Reattach the negative battery terminal.
- Insert the provided 10-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
- Test the 4-flat connector with a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer to ensure all functions (tail lights, brake lights, turn signals) operate correctly.
-
Secure and Store:
- Use the provided cable ties to secure any loose wires, keeping them away from moving parts and heat sources.
- When not in use, store the 4-flat connector in a convenient, out-of-the-way location, such as within the rear cargo area.
- Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to protect the connector from dirt and moisture.
Hardware List:
- Custom wiring harness with 4-flat connector
- Black converter module
- Double-sided tape
- Ring terminal
- Self-tapping ground screw
- Cable ties
- 10-amp fuse (for fuse holder on converter harness)

- Drilling Caution: Before drilling, check for any components behind or under the surface to avoid damage or personal injury.
Specifications:
- Turn and Brake Circuits: 3.0 amps per side
- Tail/Running Circuits: 6.0 amps total
