Installation Instructions for Volkswagen ID.4 and Audi Q4 e-tron

- Panel trim removal tool
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Remove Underbody Panel
- Remove 13 screws from the underbody panel using a T-25 Torx bit.
- Remove two retainer-style fasteners from the lower fascia panel using a T-15 Torx bit.
- Remove one push-style fastener securing the rear underbody panel to additional protective panels.
- Carefully lower the underbody panel and set it aside for reinstallation.
Step 2: Remove Rear Fascia Screws
- Use a T-25 Torx bit to remove:
- One screw on each side of the rear lift gate below each taillight.
- Two screws from the driver-side rear wheel well.
- Two screws from the passenger-side rear wheel well.
- Remove the rear license plate (if equipped) and set it aside.
- Remove two screws located behind the license plate using a T-25 Torx bit.
Step 3: Separate Wheel Well Trim
- Carefully separate the wheel well trim, starting from the rearward-most part and working upward.
- Depress the clips from the backside to assist with separation (full removal is not required).
- Remove two fasteners under each wheel well trim securing the fascia panel using a T-25 Torx bit.
- Repeat this step on both sides of the vehicle.
Step 4: Remove Fascia Panel
- Start at the wheel wells and apply pressure to the retaining clips to separate the fascia panel.
- Disconnect the electrical wiring from the bumper fascia and set the fascia aside.
Step 5: Remove Bumper Beam
- Disconnect the electrical connection from the bumper beam.
- Remove the seven bolts securing the bumper beam to the vehicle using a 13mm socket.
- Remove the bumper beam and set it aside for reinstallation.
Step 6: Install Hitch and Bumper Beam
- Raise the hitch and bumper beam into position.
- Secure them with the supplied M8 hex bolts (#1) and 3/8" conical-toothed washers (#2).
- Torque all hardware to 23 ft-lbs.
- Reconnect the electrical connection to the bumper beam.
- Note: You may need to bend the small bumper beam hang tabs flat during reinstallation.
Step 7: Reinstall Fascia
- Reinstall the bumper fascia, ensuring the receiver tube passes through the cutout below the license plate location.
- Reconnect all electrical connections during reinstallation.
Step 8: Reinstall All Screws and Fasteners
- Secure the bumper fascia, underbody panel, and wheel trims.
- Reinstall the license plate (if equipped).
Hardware List:
- (7) Hex bolt, M8
- (7) Conical-toothed washer, 3/8"
Safety Notes:
- Safety glasses should be worn at all times during installation.
- Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
- Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and secure.
