Typically those trailers will use the standard 4 flat plug which is what our Wiring Kits offer. If you have an RV Fifth Wheel or any other large type of trailer you will us a 7 pin trailer plug to control your electric trailer brakes. Tekonsha offers 7 pin trailer connector as well. Simply do a search above to see if there is a 7 wire trailer wiring available for hooking up your 7 way. If there is not you can use part number 85343 trailer wiring adapter to convert any 4-Flat into a 7-Way. In addition you will use part number 20506 which will include the rest of wiring needed for electric brake controls. Remove Rearmost Fasteners:
- For vehicles with a step bumper, remove the rearmost bumper bracket bolt and J-nut from both sides.

Position Hitch:
- Place the hitch on the vehicle, ensuring the bumper brackets (if present) are sandwiched between the hitch and the vehicle frame. Install the rearmost fasteners.

Drill Forward Holes:
- Using the hitch as a template, drill two (2) 1/2" holes into the frame at the forward end of the hitch.
- Note: On some models, the holes may already exist.

Install Remaining Fasteners:
- Secure the hitch using the provided hardware. For vehicles with a step bumper, place the 3/16" x 1" x 2" block between the frame and the side brackets at the forward attachment point.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Tighten all 1/2"-13 Grade 5 fasteners to 75 lb-ft (102 N*m).

- Remove both tail light assemblies and locate the vehicle’s wiring harness.
- The harness will have connection points on each side matching the ends of the T-Connector adapter.
Step 2: Vehicle-Specific Instructions
2A. Vans/Expedition/Navigator:
- Partially remove the rear interior plastic trim panels on the left (driver’s) side.
- Open the vehicle's jack storage compartment to expose the openings to the tail light assemblies.
- Remove the threshold cover plate between the rear doors.
2B. Escort/Tracer:
- Partially remove the trunk lining to expose the grommets accessing the tail lights.
- Remove and slit the grommets to allow wires to pass into the tail light openings.
2C. F-150 Pickups (Flareside Only):
- From underneath the vehicle, locate the access holes into the tail light openings.
- There will be an access hole on each side of the vehicle.

From the passenger side, route the T-Connector end containing the green wire out from inside the vehicle through the tail light opening.

Disconnect the vehicle’s center black wiring harness connector from the tail light assembly.

Route the yellow wire across the vehicle under the threshold cover removed in step 2.
