Tekonsha manufactures a wider range of different products for hooking up trailer lights to your Car Truck or SUV. Our connectors work great with boat trailer wiring and utility trailer wiring. Typically those trailers will use the standard 4 flat plug which is what our Wiring Kits offer. If you have an RV Fifth Wheel or any other large type of trailer you will us a 7 pin trailer plug to control your electric trailer brakes. Tekonsha offers 7 pin trailer connector as well. Simply do a search above to see if there is a 7 wire trailer wiring available for hooking up your 7 way. If there is not you can use part number 85343 trailer wiring adapter to convert any 4-Flat into a 7-Way. In addition you will use part number 20506 which will include the rest of wiring needed for electric brake controls. Lower the Exhaust:
- Remove two (2) rubber exhaust hangers on the driver’s side and one (1) on the passenger’s side of the vehicle.

Remove Tow Hook Bracket:
- Remove the tow hook bracket by detaching five (5) M10 bolts.
- Return the bracket and fasteners to the vehicle owner.

Install the Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position.
- Secure it with four (4) M10 x 1.25 x 40mm bolts and conical toothed washers, two (2) per side.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Use a torque wrench to tighten all M10 CL8.8 fasteners to 42 lb-ft (57 N·m).

Reinstall Exhaust:
- Raise the exhaust back into position and reinstall the rubber isolators.

Installation Instructions for T-Connector Adapter

- 10mm Socket & Ratchet or Wrench
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare the Vehicle:
- Open the rear hatch and remove all floor coverings, storage tray bolts, and storage trays to expose the spare tire compartment.
- Use a trim panel tool to carefully remove the threshold plate, ensuring not to damage any clips. Remove two screws in the threshold area to access the trim panels.
- Partially remove the lower interior trim panels on both sides of the vehicle. Set aside all removed items carefully.

Remove the Taillight Assemblies:
- Remove the taillights on both the driver’s and passenger’s sides by unscrewing three screws per taillight. Carefully pull the taillight housing away from the vehicle, ensuring not to damage the alignment pins.

Access the Taillight Wiring Harness:
- Locate the vehicle’s taillight wiring harness on both sides. This harness has a connection point matching the T-Connector ends.
- Separate the connectors carefully, ensuring not to break the locking tabs. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt.

Route the T-Connector Wiring:
- Push the vehicle’s taillight wiring harness into the rear cargo compartment behind the partially removed trim panels.

Install the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- From the inside of the rear cargo compartment on the passenger side, locate the vehicle’s taillight wiring harness. Insert the T-Connector end with the green wire into the harness and lock it in place. Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs secure.
