Installation Instructions for Kia Sorento (2016–Current)

- Wrenches: 3/4", 14mm, 16mm, 17mm, 18mm, 19mm
- Socket Extension: 6"
- Philips Screwdriver
- Lubricant or Soapy Water
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Lower and Remove Spare Tire:
- The tire release is located underneath the storage compartment in the back of the vehicle.

Remove Driver Side Rear Plastic Cover:
- Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove fasteners.
- Remove (5) plastic push pins and (2) nuts.
-
Lower Exhaust:
- Remove the rear and side hangers, supporting the exhaust to prevent damage.
- Spray lubricant or soapy water on the metal hanger rod and the rubber isolator for easier removal.
- Remove rubber plugs from the bottom of the frame rail on both sides.

Prepare Weldnuts:
- Run M10 bolts into the existing weldnuts in the frame rail to clean out debris, then remove them.

Position Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position.
- Insert (items 1 & 2) on the driver’s side and (items 4 & 5) on the passenger’s side.
- Insert bolts through the bracket and frame as shown in Figure 1 for support.
- Note: If the bumper locator pin interferes with the hitch hardware, trim the pin with an angle grinder at the shoulder.

Secure Bolts:
- Insert M10 bolts (items 8 & 7) through the bracket into the frame and hand-tighten.

Install Washers and Nuts:
- Attach the remaining conical washers and hex nuts to the bolts.

Torque Fasteners:
- Tighten fasteners to the specified torque values:
- M10 CL10.9 bolts: 40 lb-ft (54 N*m)
- 1/2 GR5 bolts: 75 lb-ft (102 N*m)
- M12 GR8.8 bolts: 68 lb-ft (92 N*m)
- Tighten fasteners to the specified torque values:

Reattach Exhaust:
- Raise the exhaust back into position.

Reinstall Plastic Cover:
- Reinstall the plastic cover removed in Step 2.

Reinstall Spare Tire:
- Ensure the spare tire is seated properly.

Installation Instructions for T-Connector Adapter for Kia Sorento and Hyundai Veracruz
Part Numbers:

Tools Required:
- Trim Panel Remover
- Wire Cutters
- 10mm Socket & Ratchet or Wrench
- Phillips Head Screwdriver
- Test Probe
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Access the Vehicle Wiring:
- Kia Sorento: Lower the spare tire to access the vehicle wiring.
- Hyundai Veracruz: Locate the access hole inside the bumper support channel, above the passenger side exhaust, and route the T-Connector harness plugs through the hole.

Locate the Tow-Plug Harness:
- Kia Sorento: On the passenger side, on top of the frame rail near the rear tire, locate the vehicle’s Tow-Plug harness. If covered by a protective cover, remove the plastic trim fasteners to access the harness.
- Hyundai Veracruz: Find the Tow-Plug harness on the passenger side frame near the rear tire. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt.

Connect the T-Connector:
- Remove the protective caps from the vehicle’s tow plug harness.
- Insert the T-Connector harness into the vehicle’s Tow-Plug harness and lock it into place.
- Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs secure.

Route the T-Connector Wiring:
- Kia Sorento: Route the T-Connector harness rearward to the back of the fascia and along the inside of the bumper toward the center of the vehicle.
- Hyundai Veracruz: Route the T-Connector harness along the inside of the bumper support channel toward the center of the vehicle.
Warning:
- Route the wire carefully to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any other points that may pinch or break the wire.

Mount the Black Box:
- Use the provided double-sided tape to mount the T-Connector black box on the bumper support channel.
- Secure all loose wires with cable ties to prevent damage or rattling.

Test the Installation:
- Ensure all connections are complete. Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
- Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer.
Specifications:
- Max. stop/turn light: 2 per side (4.2 amps)
- Max. tail lights: (7.5 amps)
Safety Notes:
- Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer’s rating or the unit specifications.
