Installation Instructions for Volvo V70, XC70, S60, and V60

Wiring Access Location:

Tools Required:

• Utility Knife
• Wrenches: 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 17mm
• Torx Driver: T-25

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Remove Rear Bumper Fascia:

   • Notify the vehicle owner that the fascia requires trimming for hitch installation.
   • Remove the plastic fastener at the rear of the vehicle between the bottom of the fascia and the end panel.
   • Open the tailgate and remove the two rubber tailgate stops.
   • Remove screws (each side) from the plastic wheel well molding and gently pull the fascia away from the molding.
   • At the tail light, pull gently rearward and continue until the fascia is completely removed.

2. Loosen Towing Eye:

   • Remove the inside appearance panel at the rear of the tailgate and loosen the towing eye under the panel on the passenger side.

3. Remove Impact Bar:

   • Continue loosening the towing eye as needed to remove the impact bar.

4. Install Hitch:

   • Place the hitch into the impact bar and align the bolt holes.
   • Attach conical washers to the hex bolts and insert them into the bolt holes.
   • Slide 3/8” blocks onto the backside of the bolts on the hitch (only for models with raised end panels).

5. Secure Hitch and Reinstall Components:

   • Raise the hitch and impact bar into position. Hand-tighten all bolts, including those for the towing eye.
   • Reinstall the towing eye by sandwiching the hitch, impact bar, and towing eye. Tighten all bolts to the specified torque:
     • M10 CL8.8 fasteners: 38 lb-ft (52 N*m).
   • Retighten the towing eye from inside the vehicle trunk.

6. Trim Fascia:

   • Use a utility knife to trim the fascia at the bottom center. The cut should be 2 1/2” wide and 2” long.
   • Obtain the vehicle owner’s approval before cutting.

7. Reinstall Fascia:

   • Carefully reinstall the fascia, ensuring it sits flat along the rear shelf of the trunk.

• Qty (6): Conical Washer – 7/16”
• Qty (6): Block – 3/8” (only for models with raised end panels)

Safety Notes:

• Check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened.
• If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or body panels to prevent water and exhaust fumes from entering.
• Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.

Installation Instructions for T-Connector Adapter for Volvo XC70

Part Numbers:

Tools Required:

• Trim Panel Remover
• 10mm Socket & Ratchet or Wrench
• Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)
• Wire Crimpers
• Wire Cutters
• Phillips Head Screwdriver
• Test Probe

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Prepare the Rear Cargo Area:

• Open the rear hatch.
• Partially remove the plastic threshold cover, side panels, and cargo trays to locate the vehicle wiring in the rear cargo area.

2. Locate the Taillight Wiring Harness:

• On both the driver and passenger sides, locate the vehicle’s taillight wiring harness.
• Disconnect the connectors carefully, ensuring not to break the locking tabs. Clean all connector surfaces to remove dirt.

3. Install the Driver-Side T-Connector:

• Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the driver’s side vehicle wiring connectors and lock it into place.
• Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs engaged.

4. Mount the T-Connector Black Box:

• Use the provided double-sided tape to mount the black box securely on the driver’s side.
• Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness using the provided cable ties, avoiding areas that could cut or pinch the wire.

5. Ground the White Wire:

• Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud, or drill a 3/32” hole.
• Secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw. Avoid drilling into the vehicle floor or bed.

Caution:

• Verify what is behind the surface before drilling to prevent damage or injury.

6. Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:

• Route the T-Connector end with the green wire across the threshold to the passenger side of the vehicle.
• Insert the T-Connector between the vehicle wiring connectors on the passenger side and lock it into place.

7. Connect the Red Wire:

• On the driver’s side, route the T-Connector end with the red wire up the panel and connect it to the mating connector.
• Ensure all connections are secure with locking tabs fully engaged.

8. Connect the Power Wire:

• Locate the black 12-gauge power wire from the T-Connector black box on the driver’s side.
• Attach the provided black 12-gauge wire using the supplied yellow butt connector.
• Route the black wire along the vehicle frame or existing wiring to the battery in the engine compartment.

Warning:

• Avoid routing near hot pipes, heat shields, or the fuel tank.

9. Connect to the Vehicle Battery:

• Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
• Attach the yellow fuse holder to the positive (+) battery cable using the provided ring terminal.
• Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black wire with the yellow butt connector.
• Reconnect the negative (-) battery cable and install the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.

10. Secure the Wiring:

- Use the provided cable ties to secure the T-Connector harness, ensuring it is not pinched, cut, or melted.

11. Reassemble the Vehicle:

- Reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and any other items removed during installation.

12. Test the Installation:

- Test the T-Connector installation with a test light or trailer to ensure functionality.  
- Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.

• Max. stop/turn light: 1 per side (2.1 amps)
• Max. tail lights: (5.6 amps)
