Step-by-Step Instructions:
Preparation:
- Read all safety instructions for tools being used.
- Support the trailer tongue with a jack stand behind the cutting area.
- Chock all wheels to ensure stability.
- Remove any wiring or brake lines from the trailer tongue.
Measuring and Cutting:
- Measure the desired swing length from the center of the coupler ball pocket backward.
- Mark the cut line, ensuring at least 5" of clearance from obstructions.
- Cut along the marked line, removing any sharp edges or burrs.
Safety Chain Installation:
- Mark and drill 1/2” holes for safety chain bolts 4” from the cut end and 1” up from the bottom.
- Secure chains using separate 1/2” bolts and locknuts, torqued to 45 ft-lbs.
Castings Installation (Bolt-On):
- Position the male casting on the trailer tongue and secure temporarily with a clamp.
- Drill mounting holes progressively (1/8”, 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2”).
- Attach the casting using the supplied hardware and torque all bolts to 75 ft-lbs.
Castings Installation (Weld-On):
- Position the casting on the trailer tongue and ensure it is straight.
- Weld all four sides using a 3/16” minimum fillet weld.
- Proceed with the assembly as described in the bolt-on instructions.
Wiring and Chain Rerouting:
- Route the wiring through the swing tongue to prevent damage.
- Attach the coupler using the provided bolts and torque to 75 ft-lbs.
- Secure safety chains to prevent dragging or binding.
Final Assembly:
- Attach the swing tongue to the trailer tongue by mating the castings together.
- Apply grease to the pivot bolt and secure with a locknut (torque to 50 ft-lbs).
- Insert the hinge pin and secure it with a hairpin cotter.
- Check the operation of the swing mechanism.
Maintenance:
- Annually:
