Installation Instructions for Mazda 6

Wiring Access Location:

Specifications:
- Max Gross Trailer Weight: 2,000 lb. (908 kg)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Raise Vehicle:
- Use ramps or a hoist to safely raise the vehicle.

Lower Exhaust System:
- Remove the rubber isolators at the muffler(s) and one isolator near the rear suspension.
- Support the exhaust to prevent damage.

Remove Fascia Fasteners (for 6-cylinder models):
- If equipped with rear fascia exhaust trim, remove the two black plastic fasteners near the center of the rear panel to allow the fascia to be gently pulled back.

Position and Mark Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position and temporarily install fasteners in the rear panel to locate the hitch.
- Mark the forward-most hole on the frame.

Drill Access Hole:
- Lower the hitch and drill a 1-1/8” access hole in the frame at the marked location.
- Paint all bare metal to prevent corrosion.

Install Fasteners:
- Fishwire the frame rail fasteners (carriage bolts and blocks) into place through the access hole.
- Leave the fish wires attached.

Raise Hitch:
- Lift the hitch into position, routing the fish wires through the hitch mounting holes.
- Carefully remove the fish wires, install the remaining fasteners, and tighten to specifications.

Reattach Exhaust:
- Raise the exhaust back into position and reconnect the rubber isolators.

Reinstall Fascia Fasteners (if removed):
- Reinstall the black plastic fascia fasteners removed in Step 3.
Hardware List:
- (4) Carriage Bolts: 7/16”-14 x 1-1/4” GR5
- (2) Hex Head Bolts: 7/16”-14 x 1-1/2” GR5
- (4) Blocks: 1” x 2” x 3/16”
- (6) Conical Washers: 7/16”
- (2) Flat Washers: 7/16”
- (6) Hex Nuts: 7/16”-14
Safety Notes:
- Regularly inspect all fasteners and the hitch ball to ensure proper tightening.
- Plug any holes in the trunk pan or other body panels if the hitch is removed to prevent water and exhaust fumes from entering.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- Always observe safety precautions and wear eye protection when working beneath the vehicle.
- Do not use a torch to cut access or attachment holes.
