Installation Instructions for Tesla Model S (2012-Present)

Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Remove Bottom Fins:
- Use a 10mm socket to remove (3) screws from the innermost long fins connected to the chrome piece on each side.
- Use a panel removal tool to remove (3) screws and (2) push pins from the outermost short fins on each side.
- Detach all plastic tabs and gently remove the fins from the bottom panels. Set them aside for reinstallation.
2. Remove Bottom Appearance Panels:
- Use a 10mm socket to remove (3) screws from the front bottom panel and (6) screws from the intersection line of the front and rear panels.
- Detach the front bottom panel.
- Remove (3) flange nuts from the studs on the trunk pan and (2) screws from the chrome piece using a 10mm socket.
- Loosen the rear bottom panel using a T30 Torx bit.
3. Loosen Wheel Well Liners:
- Locate the plastic trim inside the wheel well liners.
- Use a panel removal tool to remove (2) clips from the bottom and (3) clips from the sides on each side.
- Remove (1) push pin and (1) flange nut from the wheel well liners using a 10mm socket.
- Loosen the fascia connection point screws using a T25 Torx bit.
4. Remove Trunk Panels:
- Open the hatch and remove the interior carpet liner.
- Loosen the weather stripping and detach the center trunk panel from (4) snap clips.
- Detach the curved plastic trunk panels near the taillights from (2) snap clips on each side.
- Peel off the rectangular adhesive rubber tape behind the carpet liner and remove (1) flange nut from the end panel studs using a 10mm socket with extension.
5. Remove Fascia:
- Use a plastic trim tool to detach the fascia starting at the wheel wells.
- Disconnect the wiring harness on the passenger side, if present. Set the fascia aside for reinstallation.
6. Remove Bumper Beam and Sensor:
- Use a 15mm socket to remove (8) factory flange nuts securing the bumper beam and another (8) from the bumper end panel.
- If a second layer of the bumper beam is present, remove it and return it to the owner.
- Remove the sensor in the center of the bumper end panel using an 8mm socket.
7. Install Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position and hang it on the bumper end panel studs.
- Torque (4) factory flange nuts on the middle studs to 42 lb-ft (57 N·m).
- Reinstall the bumper beam and loosely secure the remaining factory flange nuts. Torque all fasteners to 42 lb-ft (57 N·m).
- Use cable ties to reattach the sensor to the hitch center section.
8. Trim Fascia:
- Use a drill, jigsaw, and the provided template to trim the chrome and plastic pieces as needed.
9. Reinstall Components:
- Reinstall the wiring harness, fascia, trunk panels, wheel well liners, bottom appearance panels, and fins in reverse order.
Safety Notes:
- Regularly inspect the hitch and all fasteners for proper tightness.
- Plug all holes in the trunk pan or body panels if the hitch is removed to prevent water or exhaust entry.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- Always wear safety glasses and take precautions when working under the vehicle.
- Do not cut holes with a torch.
