Installation Instructions for BMW X5
(Fascia trim required. Obtain owner’s approval before cutting.)

- 5/32” Rivet Tool
Wiring Access Location:
- SUV3, SUV4
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove Rear Bumper Fascia:
- Disconnect the back-up sensor wiring if present.
- Remove the following:
- (2) Plastic pop rivets (each side) from the wheel well molding. Rivets cannot be reused; replacements are provided.
- Screws behind reflectors (one per side).
- (6) Screws from the bottom of the fascia.
- Gently pull back the wheel well molding to access and remove the screws securing the fascia.
- Detach the reflectors by releasing the clip holding them in place.
- Remove the retaining tabs under the light if necessary.

Remove Impact Bar:
- Use an 18mm deep socket to detach the impact bar.
- Lower the tailgate to access the upper mounting fasteners.

Position the Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position under the vehicle frame.
- Reinstall the impact bar over the hitch brackets, securing with the existing flange nuts.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Use a torque wrench to tighten all M12 fasteners to 65 lb-ft (88 N·m).

Trim Fascia:
- Locate the bottom center of the fascia.
- Mark and trim a rectangle measuring 8” wide x 2” high using a utility knife.
- Obtain the vehicle owner’s approval before cutting.

Reattach Fascia:
- Reinstall the bumper fascia.
- Reconnect wiring.

- (6) Replacement Plastic Rivets (provided)
- (8) Existing Flange Nuts (from the vehicle)
Safety Notes:
- Check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened.
- If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or body panels to prevent water and exhaust fumes from entering.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- Observe safety precautions when working beneath the vehicle, and wear eye protection.
- Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.

Installation Instructions for Modulite® HD Protector Vehicle Wiring

- Phillips Head #2 Screwdriver
- Wire Cutters
- Wire Strippers/Wire Crimpers
- Tester or Volt Meter
- Socket & Ratchet Set
- Drill with 3/32” Drill Bit
- Double-Sided Tape
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Tow Vehicle Inputs - Determination:
- Disconnect and isolate the vehicle's negative battery terminal.
- Warning: Read and follow all warnings and instructions on the tow vehicle's battery.
- Splice the tow harness input wires to the vehicle as determined.
- Caution: Use appropriate gauge wire splices. Blue taps are for 16-18 gauge wires only.
Harness Installation:
- Determine the mounting location of the module and secure it using the double-sided tape provided.
- Warning: Mount the module with the epoxy side pointed towards the ground to prevent water buildup.
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the module, such as an existing ground stud, or drill a 3/32” hole to secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
- Caution: Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or personal injury.
- Route the power wire to the vehicle’s positive battery terminal. Use the provided fuse holder, butt connector, and ring terminal to connect to the battery.
- Do not insert the 15 amp fuse yet.
- Caution: Ensure the module is connected to a constant power source and avoid routing the wire near hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or pinch points.
Completion:
- Secure the harness with cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling.
- Reconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable.
- Insert the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder and close the cap.
- Test the installation using a test light or trailer. Check each function independently and in combination.
