Installation Instructions for Pontiac Bonneville, Buick LeSabre, Buick Lucerne (Excluding Super & Special Edition), and Oldsmobile Aurora

Wiring Access Location:

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove Exhaust Hanger Bracket:
- Detach the exhaust hanger bracket from the bottom of the frame rail.
- Disconnect the bracket from the rubber hanger attached to the exhaust tailpipe.
- Return the factory exhaust brackets to the vehicle owner.
- Replacement brackets will be installed later.

Raise Hitch and Drill Holes:
- Raise the hitch into position and use it as a template to drill two (2) 1/2" holes in the frame rail.

Trim Heat Shield (if applicable):
- If the vehicle is equipped with a heat shield:
- Remove and discard the rearmost fastener securing the heat shield to the frame rail.
- Trim the heat shield around the drilled hole as shown in Figure 2.
- If the vehicle is equipped with a heat shield:

Trim Load Leveling Control Housing (if applicable):
- For vehicles with automatic load leveling control:
- Remove the rearmost fastener securing the load leveling control housing to the frame rail and discard.
- Trim the load leveling control housing as shown in Figure 3.
- For vehicles with automatic load leveling control:

Install Hardware:
- Lower the hitch and fishwire the carriage bolts and blocks through the drilled holes and into position.
- Raise the hitch back into position and install the remaining fasteners as shown in Figure 1.
- If equipped with a heat shield, ensure it is sandwiched between the frame and the hitch side bracket during installation.

Attach Replacement Hanger Brackets:
- Install the replacement exhaust hanger brackets:
- Insert a 3/8-16 x 2" carriage bolt through the square hole in the hanger bracket to the bottom of the frame rail.
- Slide the rubber hanger onto the 3/8" carriage bolt and secure it with a flanged locknut.
- Tighten the nut against the rubber hanger, allowing the hanger to rotate freely (do not overtighten).
- Install the replacement exhaust hanger brackets:

Tighten Fasteners:
- Torque all 1/2" GR5 fasteners to 75 lb-ft (102 N*m).
- Torque all M10 CL9.8 fasteners to 53 lb-ft (72 N*m).
- Torque all 3/8" GR5 fasteners to 31 lb-ft (41 N*m).
Hardware List:
- (2) M10 x 1.50 x 45mm Bolts (CL9.8)
- (2) Carriage Bolt, 1/2"-13 x 1.75" (GR5)
- (2) Carriage Bolt, 3/8"-16 x 2" (GR5)
- (2) Spacer Block, 1/4" x 1" x 3"
- (2) Lock Washer, 1/2"
- (2) Flanged Locknut, 3/8"-16
- (2) Hex Nut, 1/2"-13
- (2) Replacement Exhaust Hanger Brackets
Safety Notes:
- Frequently check the hitch to ensure all fasteners and the ball are securely tightened.
- If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent water or exhaust fumes from entering.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
- Wear eye protection and observe safety precautions when working beneath the vehicle.

Installation Instructions for Modulite® HD Protector Vehicle Wiring

- Wire Cutters
- Wire Strippers/Wire Crimpers
- Tester or Volt Meter
- Socket & Ratchet Set
- Drill with 3/32” Drill Bit
- Double-Sided Tape
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Tow Vehicle Inputs - Determination:
- Disconnect and isolate the vehicle's negative battery terminal.
- Warning: Read and follow all warnings and instructions on the tow vehicle's battery.
- Splice the tow harness input wires to the vehicle as determined.
- Caution: Use appropriate gauge wire splices. Blue taps are for 16-18 gauge wires only.
Harness Installation:
- Determine the mounting location of the module and secure it using the double-sided tape provided.
- Warning: Mount the module with the epoxy side pointed towards the ground to prevent water buildup.
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the module, such as an existing ground stud, or drill a 3/32” hole to secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
- Caution: Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or personal injury.
- Route the power wire to the vehicle’s positive battery terminal. Use the provided fuse holder, butt connector, and ring terminal to connect to the battery.
- Do not insert the 15 amp fuse yet.
- Caution: Ensure the module is connected to a constant power source and avoid routing the wire near hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or pinch points.
Completion:
- Secure the harness with cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling.
- Reconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable.
- Insert the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder and close the cap.
- Test the installation using a test light or trailer. Check each function independently and in combination.
