Installation Instructions for Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk (Model Specific)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove Rubber Plugs and Wiring Fasteners:
- Remove the rubber plug from the bottom of both frame rails.
- Detach vehicle wiring plastic fasteners around the frame rail at three (3) places on each side using a screwdriver, trim tool, or pliers.

Remove Frame Bolts:
- Remove the M14 bolts on the outside of both frame rails (two per side). Return bolts to the vehicle owner.
-
Install Small Brackets:
- Position the small brackets as shown in Figure 2 and attach them using the supplied M14 bolts and conical washers. Repeat for both sides.
-
Tighten Brackets:
- Push the brackets toward the rear of the vehicle and tighten fasteners to the required torque specification.
-
Install Carriage Bolts and Brackets:
- Attach the carriage bolts to the pull wire and feed them through the slot in the small brackets.
-
Install Frame Bolts:
- Remove one (1) M14 bolt from each side of the bottom frame rail. Install the carriage bolt and spacer into the square hole in the frame rail using the reverse pull wire method (leave pull wire attached). Refer to Figure 3.
- Assemble the remaining M14 bolt, conical washer, and spacer. Start the threads into the bumper bracket.

Position and Secure Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position by rotating it over the exhaust, ensuring electrical wires are not pinched or trapped. Feed the 1/2" pull wire through the slot on the hitch bracket. Slide the hitch into position over the M14 bolt and spacer fasteners on the bottom of the frame rail.
- Pull the 1/2" carriage bolt through the slot to support the hitch.

Secure Carriage Bolts:
- Carefully remove the pull wire on the carriage bolt through the small and hitch brackets, and attach a conical washer and hex nut.

Repeat for Remaining Bolts:
- Pull the remaining carriage bolt into position, carefully remove the pull wire, and attach conical washers and hex nuts.

Torque All Fasteners:
- Tighten all M14 CL10.9 fasteners to 92 lb-ft (125 N*m).
- Tighten all 1/2-13 GR5 fasteners to 75 lb-ft (102 N*m).

Secure Vehicle Wiring:
- Use the cable ties to secure the vehicle wiring to the forward hole on the side of the hitch bracket.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Installation Instructions for T-One® T-Connector for Jeep Cherokee

- T30 Socket & Ratchet
- Trim Panel Remover
- 10mm Socket & Ratchet or 10mm Wrench
- Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)
- 1/4” Socket
- Wire Crimpers
- Wire Cutters

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove the Taillights:
- Open the tailgate and remove the vehicle’s taillight assemblies by unscrewing the four T30 bolts on each side.
- Carefully pry the housings away from the vehicle, avoiding damage to the alignment tabs.

Disconnect the Wiring Harness:
- On the driver’s side, disconnect the vehicle wiring harness from the taillight socket.
- Route the T-One® T-Connector end with the yellow wires up between the bumper and vehicle body into the taillight pocket.

Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Plug the T-One® T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the mating plugs on the driver-side taillight socket and vehicle wiring harness.
-
Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the T-One® T-Connector end with the green wire to the passenger side underneath the bumper.
- Bring the green wire up through the opening on the passenger side and connect it to the taillight wiring harness as done on the driver side.
Warning: Avoid routing near hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or areas where the wire may be pinched or damaged.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector. Avoid drilling into the vehicle floor or bed.
- Clean the grounding area and drill a 3/32” hole.
- Secure the white wire with the provided eyelet and screw.
Caution: Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury.

Connect the Power Wire:
- Disconnect the vehicle’s negative (-) battery cable.
- Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder.
- Attach the ring terminal to the positive (+) battery cable and connect the black 12-gauge wire to the fuse holder using the provided yellow butt connector.
- Insert the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.

Route the Black Wire:
- From the front of the vehicle, route the black 12-gauge wire rearward along the frame rail to the rear driver-side taillight area.
- Avoid hot pipes, heat shields, and areas that could damage the wire.

Connect the Black Wire:
- Attach the black 12-gauge wire to the black wire from the T-One® T-Connector’s black box using the supplied yellow butt connector.

Reconnect the Battery:
- Reconnect the vehicle’s negative (-) battery cable.
- Test the installation with a test light or trailer.

Mount the Black Box:
- On the driver’s side, locate a flat, out-of-the-way surface to mount the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
- Ensure the epoxy side faces downward to prevent water buildup.

Secure the Wiring:
- Secure the remainder of the T-One® T-Connector harness under the bumper with the provided cable ties, avoiding areas that could pinch or cut the wires.

Reassemble the Vehicle:
- Reinstall the taillight housing assemblies, positioning the wiring harness between the housing and the vehicle body.
- Replace all trim panels and covers removed during installation.

Store the 4-Flat Connector:
- Mount the 4-flat connector in a suitable location under the vehicle. (Bracket not included.)

- Max. stop/turn light: 2 per side (4.2 amps)
- Max. tail lights: 7.5 amps
