Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove Tail Lights:
- Open the tailgate and remove the side panels to access the tail light wiring.
- Disconnect the wiring by pressing the red connector to release.
- Remove the plastic retaining screw from each side using pliers if necessary.
- Gently push rearward on the tail lights to remove them, and store them in a safe place.

Remove Appearance Panel:
- Loosen the two plastic bolts attached to the spare tire well using a 10mm socket.
- Remove four T20 screws securing the appearance panel and set it aside for reinstallation.

Remove Bolts from Wheel Well and Fascia:
- Remove four T15 plastic screws from the underside of the rear fascia and pop out the plastic retaining blocks using a flat-head screwdriver.
- Remove four T20 screws from each wheel well: three facing the rear and one at the top between the rear and side panels.

Remove Rear Fascia:
- Gently pull upward from the rear wheel well panels on each side to unclip the tabs inside.
- Continue removing along the tail light supports using a trim tool or small screwdriver to push down on cleats as needed.
- Carefully work the fascia off the fixed pins at the lower wheel well and detach any wiring harness or sensors connected to the fascia.

Remove Bumper:
- Remove the seven M13 bolts securing the bumper, lifting as needed for removal. Set aside for reinstallation.

Optional - Bolt for Support:
- Thread one M8 bolt through the existing weld nut on the end panel from the forward side to ease installation.

Install Hitch and Bumper:
- Raise the hitch into position, resting it on the bolt installed in Step 6. Align the hitch with the bumper and install bolts with conical washers.
- Remove the temporary bolt from Step 6 and install the remaining fasteners.
- If a tab on the bumper interferes with installation, use a hammer to bend it flush.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Torque all M8 CL8.8 fasteners to 20 Lb.-Ft. (27 N*M).

Trim Fascia:
- Measure and mark 3/4” from the edge of the fascia opening, 2-1/2” across, and 1-1/4” down. Carefully trim as shown.

Reinstall Fascia:
- Reattach the fascia by aligning and pressing it into place in reverse order of removal. Reattach any wiring harness if removed.
Hardware List:
- (7) Bolts: M8 x 1.25 x 30 CL8.8
- (7) Conical Washers: 3/8”
Safety Notes:
- Regularly inspect all fasteners and the hitch ball to ensure they remain securely tightened.
- Plug any holes in the trunk pan or body panels if the hitch is removed to prevent water or exhaust fumes from entering.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- Always observe safety precautions and wear eye protection while working beneath the vehicle.
- Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.

Installation Instructions for T-One® T-Connector for Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare the Vehicle:
- Open the rear tailgate and remove the threshold, trunk floor panels, and trays.
- Set aside all items removed, ensuring they are not damaged.

Remove Interior Trim Panels:
- Partially remove the rear interior trim panels on both the driver and passenger sides.
- Remove the required trim panel fasteners to detach the panels.
-
Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Separate the vehicle’s wiring connectors on the driver’s side, ensuring the locking tabs are not damaged.
- Insert the T-One® T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle wiring connectors.
- Lock the connectors into place and ensure all surfaces are clean and secure.

Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the T-One® T-Connector containing the green wire below the threshold cover to the passenger-side taillight housing.
- Repeat Step 3 for the passenger side using the T-One® T-Connector containing the green wire.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point on the driver’s side near the connectors.
- Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
Caution: Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury.

Mount the Black Box Module:
- Locate a flat surface in an out-of-the-way place and mount the T-One® T-Connector’s black box module to prevent damage or rattling.

Connect the Power Wire:
- Inside the vehicle, connect the black 12-gauge wire to the black wire from the T-One® T-Connector black box using the supplied yellow butt connector.
- Route the black wire through a grommet and along the exterior frame or follow existing wiring to the engine compartment, avoiding areas that may pinch or damage the wire.
Warning: Avoid routing the wire near hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or other hazardous areas.

Connect to the Battery:
- Disconnect the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery cable.
- Attach the ring terminal from the fuse holder to the Positive (+) battery cable.
- Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12-gauge wire using the yellow butt connector.

Reconnect the Battery and Test:
- Reconnect the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery cable.
- Insert the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
- Test the installation with a test light or trailer.
- Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.

Secure the Wiring Harness:
- Use the provided cable ties to secure the T-Connector harness, avoiding areas that may pinch, cut, or melt the wire.

Reassemble the Vehicle:
- Reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and other items removed during installation, ensuring no wires are pinched or damaged.

Store the 4-Flat Connector:
- Store the 4-flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use.
