Installation Instructions for Ford Focus Sedan, Ford Focus 5 DR – ZX5 (Hatchback), and Ford Focus 3 DR – ZX3 (Hatchback)

Wiring Access Location:

Specifications:

Step-by-Step Instructions:
General Instructions:

Raise Hitch Into Position:
- Position the hitch so that the driver’s side bracket is inboard of the tie-down hook and the passenger’s side bracket is outboard of the tie-down hook.
- The placement of the block with two holes varies by model (see Figure 1).

Install Carriage Bolts and Blocks:
- Insert the bolts and blocks through the vehicle’s tie-down hooks. Loosely install flat washers and hex nuts.
Sedan Models:

Fishwire Carriage Bolt:
- Use the fishwire to guide the carriage bolt and block through the end of the frame rail into the existing hole in the frame.

Install Remaining Fasteners:
- Secure the remaining fasteners as shown in the diagram.
Hatchback Models:

Drill Holes:
- Use the hitch as a template to drill a 1/2” hole at the forward-most end of the slot in the side bracket on the passenger side.

Fishwire Carriage Bolt:
- Guide the carriage bolt and block through the access hole on the bottom of the frame rail.

Install Remaining Fasteners:
- Secure the remaining fasteners as shown in the diagram.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Use a torque wrench to tighten all 1/2” fasteners to 75 Lb.-Ft. (102 N*M).

- (4) 1/2”-13 x 2.00 GR5 Carriage Bolts
- (1) .188” x 1.00” x 2.00” Block
- (1) .25” x 1.50” x 4.00” Block
- (2) .25” x 1.50” x 2.00” Blocks
- (1) .25” x 1.00” x 3.00” Block
- (1) .25” x 1.00” x 2.00” Block
- (3) Flat Washers: 1/2"
- (1) Conical Washer: 1/2"

- Must be used in the rise position only.
Safety Notes:
- Regularly inspect all fasteners and the hitch ball to ensure proper tightening.
- If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or body panels to prevent water and exhaust fumes from entering.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- Always wear safety glasses when working under the vehicle.
- Do not use a torch to cut access or attachment holes.
