Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove Tie-Down Brackets (if present):
- Detach the tie-down brackets from the vehicle frame rails.
- Return the bolts and brackets to the vehicle owner.

Raise Hitch:
- Lift the hitch into position on the frame rails.

Install Fasteners:
- Attach the hitch to the vehicle using the provided M12 hex bolts and conical washers.
- Align the hitch properly before tightening.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Torque all M12 CL8.8 fasteners to 68 Lb.-Ft. (92 N*M) using a torque wrench.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove Plastic Supports:
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew plastic screws while applying pressure on the opposite side. Remove both pieces of plastic from the support straps.

Trim Fascia Tab (Elantra and Rio 5 only):
- Trim the center fascia tab as shown in Figure 2. Obtain vehicle owner’s approval before cutting.

Lower Exhaust:
- Remove the rubber exhaust hanger to lower the vehicle’s exhaust system.
-
Position Hitch (Passenger Side First):
- Lift the passenger side of the hitch into position, placing the crosstube over the tailpipe. Rotate the side bracket into place on the outside of the frame rail. Gently pull the fascia out of the way to assist installation (refer to Figure 2).

Position Hitch (Driver’s Side):
- Lift the driver’s side of the hitch into position on the outside of the frame rail and in front of the bulkhead. Pull the fascia out of the way to assist installation.

Install Fasteners:
- Install the fasteners as shown in Figure 1. Hand-tighten all bolts before fully securing.

Align and Tighten Hitch:
- Push the hitch toward the rear of the vehicle to align it properly. Tighten all fasteners to the specified torque settings:
- M10 CL8.8 bolts: 42 Lb.-Ft. (57 N*M)
- M12 CL8.8 bolts: 76 Lb.-Ft. (103 N*M)
- Push the hitch toward the rear of the vehicle to align it properly. Tighten all fasteners to the specified torque settings:

Reattach Exhaust:
- Secure the rubber muffler hanger back into place.

Reattach Fascia Tabs:
- Replace any removed fascia tabs.

Installation Instructions for T-Connector Adapter for Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare the Rear Cargo Area:
- Open the rear door of the vehicle.
- Temporarily remove the rear threshold, cargo net, and cargo cover.

Locate the Vehicle’s Wiring:
- Remove the side wiring access panels in the rear cargo area.
- Behind the taillights, locate the vehicle’s wiring harness connection points.
-
Install the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Separate the vehicle’s wiring connectors on the driver’s side.
- Insert the T-Connector with the yellow wire between the vehicle’s wiring connectors.
- Ensure all connections are clean and secure.

Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the T-Connector with the green wire to the passenger’s side behind the panels and along the threshold.
- Repeat step 3 for the passenger’s side.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud, or drill a 3/32” hole.
- Secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
Caution:
- Verify what is behind the surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury. Avoid drilling into the vehicle floor or bed.

Connect the Power Wire:
- Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
- Attach the yellow fuse holder to the positive (+) battery cable using the provided ring terminal.
- Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12-gauge wire using the provided yellow butt connector.

Route the Black Power Wire:
- Route the black power wire from the engine compartment to the rear cargo area, either along the frame or through existing wiring pathways.
Warning:
- Avoid routing wires near hot pipes, heat shields, or the fuel tank.

Complete the Power Connection:
- Inside the trunk, connect the black 12-gauge power wire to the red wire from the T-Connector black box using the supplied yellow butt connector.
- Reconnect the vehicle’s negative (-) battery cable.
- Install the 10-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
Warning:
- All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly.

Mount the Black Box:
- On the driver’s side, locate a flat, out-of-the-way surface and mount the T-Connector black box using the provided double-sided tape.

Reassemble the Vehicle:
- Reinstall the trim panels, threshold, storage covers, and floor covering, ensuring no wires are pinched or cut.

Store the 4-Flat Connector:
- Store the 4-flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use.

Test the Installation:
- Test the T-Connector installation with a test light or trailer.
- Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
