Installation Instructions for 2021-Current Volkswagen ID.4

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Partially Remove Rear Bottom Appearance Panel:
- Use a T10 Torx bit to remove two plastic screws (with clips) from the front end of the rear bottom appearance panel.
- Use a T25 Torx bit to remove twelve screws from the panel.

Loosen Wheel Well Liner:
- Use a T25 Torx bit to remove four screws from the driver-side wheel well liner.
- Repeat the process for the passenger side.

Loosen Wheel Well Trim:
- Using plastic trim tools, partially remove the wheel well trim from the driver side.
- Gently pull the wheel well liner back.
- Use a T20 Torx bit to remove two screws from the fascia connection point.
- Repeat these steps for the passenger side.

Remove Taillight Cover:
- Using plastic trim tools, remove the plastic taillight cover from the driver side.
- Use a T20 Torx bit to remove one screw below the cover that was removed.
- Repeat these steps for the passenger side.

Remove Fascia:
- Using a T20 Torx bit, remove two screws from the center of the fascia.
- Use plastic trim tools to remove the fascia starting at the outer edges near the wheel wells, and gently pull the fascia.
- Disconnect the wiring harness on the passenger side if present.
- Carefully set the fascia aside for reinstallation.

Install Hitch:
- Use a 15 mm socket to remove six M8 bolts from the bumper beam.
- Do not completely remove the bumper beam.
- Starting with the driver side, raise the hitch into position, on top of the impact bar structure, and loosely tighten the M8 bolts provided in the fastener kit.
- Tighten all fasteners to 20 ft-lbs (27 N*m) using a torque wrench.

Trim Fascia:
- Using a tape measure, marker, and utility knife, cut a 1.0” x 6.5” notch in the bottom of the fascia.
- Ensure the area is clear of all electrical wiring before trimming.
- Note: Trim begins on the left side of the existing opening in the fascia.

Reinstall Components:
- Reinstall the wiring harness, fascia, fasteners, wheel trims, and bottom appearance panel removed in Steps 1-5.
Hardware List:
- (6) Hex Bolt M8x1.25 with Washer
Safety Notes:
- Always wear safety glasses during installation.
- Periodically check the hitch to ensure all fasteners and the ball are securely tightened.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or body panels to prevent the entry of water or exhaust fumes.
- Observe safety precautions when working beneath the vehicle.
- Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
