Installation Time:

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Support and Lower the Exhaust:

   • Remove four (4) rubber hangers from the exhaust system to lower it.
   • Support the exhaust to prevent it from falling under its own weight.
   • Apply lubricant or soapy water to the metal hanger rods and rubber isolators to ease removal.

2. Remove Plastic Rivets:

   • If present, remove plastic rivets fastening the fascia tabs to the vehicle.
   • Use a flat head screwdriver to remove the center of the rivet.
   • Retain the rivets for reinstallation.

3. Install Fasteners:

   • Feed the coiled end of the pull wire through the forward attachment hole in the frame and out the access hole.
   • Place a spacer onto the pull wire and thread a carriage bolt onto it.
   • Pull the wire to position the fasteners through the frame hole.
   • Leave the pull wire attached.
   • Repeat for all required locations on both frame rails.

4. Position the Hitch:

   • Raise the hitch above the exhaust and guide the pull wires through the attachment points on the hitch brackets.
   • Pull the fascia rearward gently if necessary to access between the fascia and the exhaust hanger.

5. Install Remaining Fasteners:

   • Use the conical washers (teeth side facing the hitch) to hold the bolts in place.
   • Remove the pull wires and attach hex nuts to secure the hitch loosely.

6. Tighten All Fasteners:

   • Use a torque wrench to tighten all 1/2"-13 GR5 fasteners to 75 lb-ft (102 N*m).
   • A universal joint socket may be needed to tighten the rearward fasteners on both sides.

7. Reinstall the Exhaust:

   • Raise the exhaust back into position and secure it with the rubber hangers.
   • Apply lubricant or soapy water to ease the reinstallation process.

8. Reinstall Plastic Rivets:

   • Replace any plastic rivets removed in Step 2.

Torque Specifications:

• 1/2"-13 GR5 bolts: 75 lb-ft (102 N*m)

Hardware List:

• (4) Carriage Bolts, 1/2"-13 x 1.50" GR5
• (4) Spacers, 0.250" x 1" x 3"
• (4) Conical Washers, 1/2"
• (4) Hex Nuts, 1/2"-13
• (4) Fish Wires, 1/2"-13

Safety Notes:

• Frequently check the hitch to ensure all fasteners and the ball are securely tightened.
• If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent water or exhaust fumes from entering.
• Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
• Observe safety precautions when working beneath the vehicle and wear eye protection.
• Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.

Installation Instructions for T-One® Connector for Mazda CX-5

• Trim Panel Remover
• 10mm Socket or Wrench
• Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)
• Wire Crimpers
• Wire Cutters
• Philips Head Screwdriver
• Test Probe

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Prepare the Vehicle Interior:

   • Open the rear hatch.
   • Remove the rear threshold plate, privacy screen, storage covers, and floor covering.
   • Open the rear door and fold the rear seat forward.
   • On both sides, partially pull back the felt side panels to expose the wiring connectors.

2. Locate Wiring Connectors:

   • On both the driver’s and passenger’s sides, locate the vehicle’s taillight wiring harness connectors matching the T-One® T-Connector ends.
   • Disconnect the connectors carefully, ensuring not to damage the locking tabs.

3. Install Driver-Side T-One® Connector:

   • Insert the T-One® T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock it into place.
   • Ensure all connectors are fully inserted and secure.

4. Mount the Black Box:

   • On the driver’s side, mount the T-One® Connector black box using the provided double-sided tape.
   • Secure the remaining harness with the provided cable ties to prevent damage or rattling.

5. Ground the White Wire:

   • Locate a grounding point near the black box, such as an existing ground stud, or drill a 3/32” hole.
   • Clean the area of dirt and rustproofing and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.

   Caution: Verify the area behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces.

6. Route Passenger-Side Connector:

   • Route the connector containing the green wire across the threshold and behind the passenger’s side felt panel to the taillight pocket.

7. Install Passenger-Side T-One® Connector:

   • Insert the T-One® T-Connector end with the green wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock it into place.
   • Ensure all connectors are fully inserted and secure.

8. Connect Power Wire:

   • Disconnect the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery cable.
   • Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder (provided).
   • Attach the ring terminal to the Positive (+) battery cable and secure it.
   • Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12-gauge wire using the provided yellow butt connector.

9. Route Power Wire:

   • Starting from the front of the vehicle, route the black 12-gauge wire rearward along the frame rail.
   • Avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or areas that may pinch or damage the wire.

   Warning: Use caution when routing wires through grommets and along the exterior to avoid potential hazards.

10. Connect Power Wire to Black Box:

    • Attach the black 12-gauge wire to the black power wire on the T-One® T-Connector’s black box using the provided yellow butt connector.

11. Reconnect Battery and Test:

    • Reconnect the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery cable.
    • Install the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
    • Test the installation with a test light or trailer.
    • Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.

12. Reassemble Components:

    • Reinstall trim panels, thresholds, and any other items removed during installation, ensuring wires are not pinched or damaged.
    • Store the 4-Flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use.
