Tekonsha manufactures a wider range of different products for hooking up trailer lights to your Car Truck or SUV. Our connectors work great with boat trailer wiring and utility trailer wiring. Typically those trailers will use the standard 4 flat plug which is what our Wiring Kits offer. If you have an RV Fifth Wheel or any other large type of trailer you will us a 7 pin trailer plug to control your electric trailer brakes. Tekonsha offers 7 pin trailer connector as well. Simply do a search above to see if there is a 7 wire trailer wiring available for hooking up your 7 way. If there is not you can use part number 85343 trailer wiring adapter to convert any 4-Flat into a 7-Way. In addition you will use part number 20506 which will include the rest of wiring needed for electric brake controls. Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Remove Plastic Fascia Stabilizer:
- Use a flat head screwdriver to remove (2) plastic push rivets securing the stabilizer.
- Detach the (2) plastic tabs holding the stabilizer by pinching or rotating it.
2. Lower the Muffler:
- Using exhaust removal pliers, detach the (4) rear rubber isolators supporting the muffler.
- Spray lubricant or soapy water to help remove the isolators from the metal pins.
- Ensure the exhaust is properly supported before removing the rubber hangers.
3. Remove Rear Tow Hook:
- Remove (6) M12 bolts using an 18 mm socket and extension.
- Set aside the bolts for reinstallation.
- Move the black plastic module near the bolts by pulling it toward the passenger side to detach it from its clip for easier access.
4. Enlarge Frame Hole:
- Locate the hole between the middle and forward-most holes on the driver side.
- Use a die grinder to widen the hole enough to fit one of the spacer blocks into the frame.
5. Install Blocks and Carriage Bolts:
- Use the provided pull wire to fish (2) carriage bolts and spacer blocks into the frame through the widened hole.
- Pull the pull wire out, ensuring the bolts are properly seated in the blocks.
6. Raise Hitch into Position:
- Lift the hitch over the tailpipes and align the holes in the hitch bracket with the weldnuts on the frame rail.
7. Install Fasteners:
- Install (4) M12 bolts and (2) hex nuts with conical toothed washers, ensuring the teeth face the hitch.
8. Tighten Fasteners:
- Torque all M12 CL10.9 fasteners to 105 lb-ft (142 N·m).
- Torque all hex nuts to 75 lb-ft (102 N·m).
9. Replace Plastic Module:
- Reattach the module removed in Step 3.
10. Raise Muffler:
- Reinstall the muffler by attaching the (4) rubber hangers removed in Step 2.

Locate the Vehicle Wiring:
- Open the hatch and locate the vehicle wiring inside the rear cargo area by partially removing the plastic threshold cover, side panels, and cargo trays.

Remove the Taillights:
- Using a 10mm socket or wrench, remove both the driver and passenger taillights.
- Disconnect the taillight wiring harness at the connection point on both sides, ensuring not to break locking tabs. Clean all surfaces to be dirt-free.

Prepare the Grommets:
- On both the driver and passenger sides, slit the grommet to allow the T-Connector’s wiring to pass through.

Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock it into place. Ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs secure.

Mount the T-Connector Black Box:
- Mount the black box using the provided double-sided tape.
- Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with the provided cable ties, avoiding areas that could cut or pinch the wire.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud, or drill a 3/32” hole.
- Secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw, ensuring the area is clean and free of rustproofing.
Caution: Verify what is behind the surface before drilling to prevent damage or injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces.

Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the connector containing the green wire across the threshold to the passenger side of the vehicle.
- Repeat Step 4 for the passenger side using the green wire end.

Disconnect the Negative Battery Cable:
- Disconnect the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery cable before proceeding with electrical connections.

Connect the Power Wire:
- Locate the white 2-pin connector on the driver’s side behind the side panel.
- Route the black 12-gauge wire and connect it to the mating connector. Ensure locking tabs are secure.

Install the 30-Amp Fuse:
- Under the vehicle hood, remove the covering on the top of the battery to access the fuse box.
- Insert the 30-amp fuse into the slot labeled "Trailer, 30A."

Part 1: Install the 4-Way to 7-Way Adapter
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Mount the Adapter:
- Choose a suitable mounting point on the vehicle, typically near the hitch.
- Use the provided bracket and screws to secure the adapter.

Connect the 4-Flat Plug:
- Plug the 4-flat connector on the adapter into the existing 4-flat plug on the vehicle.
- This connection enables tail lights, left turn, and right turn signals.
