Installation Instructions for 2020-Current Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Loosen Lower Fascia:
- Using a T15 Torx bit, remove three screws from the bottom of the lower fascia.
- Return one screw to the vehicle owner.

Feed Fasteners:
- (a) Use a flat head screwdriver to remove two clips securing the wiring cable on both frame rails.
- (b) Remove excess caulking in the specified area using a utility knife (see Figure 3 in the manual).
- (c) Feed the carriage bolts and washers through the access holes on both frame rails using the provided pull wires. Leave pull wires attached.

Trim Lower Fascia:
- Use a tape measure, marker, and utility knife to measure, mark, and trim the lower fascia as needed (see Figure 4 in the manual).

Install Hitch:
- Pull the lower fascia outward gently and raise the hitch into position, sliding it behind the fascia.
- Feed the pull wires through the bracket slots, then remove them.
- Loosely install conical washers (teeth side toward the hitch) and hex nuts onto the hitch.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Use a torque wrench to tighten all 7/16-14x1.75 GR5 fasteners to 50 ft-lbs (68 Nm).

Reinstall Screws:
- Reinstall the two screws on the sides of the lower fascia.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Open the Rear Hatch:
- Temporarily remove the rear threshold plate, privacy screen, storage covers, and floor covering.
- Open the rear door and fold the rear seat forward.

Remove Interior Trim Panels:
- Partially remove the rear interior trim panels on both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle.
- Remove all necessary trim panel fasteners and set aside all items carefully to avoid damage.
-
Locate the Taillight Wiring Harness:
- On both sides of the vehicle, locate the vehicle’s taillight wiring harness.
- Disconnect the connectors carefully, ensuring not to break the locking tabs. Clean all connector surfaces to remove dirt.

Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Insert the T-One® Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle’s wiring connectors.
- Lock the connectors securely in place, ensuring the locking tabs are properly engaged.

Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the connector containing the green wire down the threshold to the passenger side of the vehicle.
- Insert the T-One® Connector end with the green wire between the passenger-side wiring connectors.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle’s frame or crossmember.
- Clean dirt and rustproofing from the grounding area.
- Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.

- Locate the black 12-gauge power wire from the T-One® T-Connector box.
- Attach the provided black wire and route it along the vehicle’s exterior frame to the engine compartment, avoiding areas that may pinch, cut, or melt the wire.

- Disconnect the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery cable.
- Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder (provided).
- Attach the ring terminal to the Positive (+) battery cable and secure it.
- Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black wire using the provided yellow butt connector.
Warning: Follow all warnings printed on the vehicle’s battery.

Reconnect the Battery and Test:
- Reconnect the Negative (-) battery cable.
- Insert the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
- Test the installation using a test light or trailer. Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.

- Locate a flat surface in an out-of-the-way location and mount the black box module using the provided double-sided tape.

Secure the Harness:
- Use the provided cable ties to secure the remaining T-One® T-Connector harness, avoiding areas where it could pinch, cut, or melt.

Reassemble the Vehicle:
- Replace all panels, threshold covers, and storage items removed during installation.

Store the 4-Flat Connector:
- Store the 4-flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use.
- When in use, pull the 4-flat connector through the door and close carefully, avoiding pinching the harness in the door latch.
