Installation Instructions for 2018-Current Nissan Kicks

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Lower Muffler:
- Using exhaust removal pliers, remove the two rearmost rubber exhaust hangers.
- Spray lubricant on the hangers to ease removal.
- Ensure the exhaust is properly supported before removing it from the hangers to prevent damage.

Remove Heat Shield:
- Use a 15/16” socket to remove the four metal fasteners holding the heat shield in place.
- Remove the heat shield and trim it as indicated in Figure 2 of the manual.
- Note: Dimensions are approximate; confirm fit before trimming.

Lower Carbon Canister:
- Remove the rearmost M8 bolt from the carbon canister on the driver side using a 10 mm socket. Allow the canister to hang.
- If present, remove the frame rail plug to access the rear mounting point on the driver side.

Enlarge Attachment Holes:
- Using a die grinder, enlarge the forward attachment holes on the driver and passenger side frame rails to insert the carriage block and bolt (see Figure 3).

Install Carriage Bolts and Spacers:
- Use pull wires to install spacer blocks and carriage bolts into the rearward and forward attachment holes through the enlarged holes on both sides (see Figures 4 and 5).
- Leave the pull wires attached for alignment during hitch installation.

Reinstall Heat Shield:
- Reinstall the trimmed heat shield using the original fasteners.

Install Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position and align the slots with the attachment holes.
- Install conical washers (teeth side toward hitch) and hex nuts onto the bolts and hand-tighten them.

Center Hitch:
- Center the hitch on the vehicle as close as possible.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Using a torque wrench, tighten all 7/16”-14 fasteners to 50 ft-lbs (68 N*m).

Reinstall Carbon Canister:
- Reinstall the black carbon canister removed in Step 3 using the original M8 bolt.

Reinstall Exhaust:
- Reattach the exhaust to the rubber hangers in its original position.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove the Taillight Assemblies:
- Open the rear tailgate to access the bolts holding the taillights.
- On both the driver and passenger sides, remove the two 10mm screws.
- Carefully pull the taillights away from the vehicle, being cautious not to damage the alignment pins.

Locate the Taillight Wiring Harness:
- On both the driver and passenger sides, locate the vehicle’s taillight wiring harness.
- Disconnect the connectors carefully, ensuring not to break the locking tabs.
- Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt.

Mount the T-Connector Black Box:
- Underneath the vehicle, determine a suitable mounting point behind the rear bumper fascia on the driver’s side.
- Mount the black box using the provided double-sided tape.
Warning: Ensure the module is in a protected area to avoid damage from road debris or objects driven over.
Warning: Mount the module with the epoxy side facing downward to prevent water accumulation.

- Fish the T-Connector end with the yellow wire up between the bumper and the vehicle body into the driver’s side taillight pocket.

Connect the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Insert the green wire end between the passenger-side taillight socket and the vehicle wiring harness.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle’s frame or crossmember.
- Clean the area of dirt and rustproofing.
- Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
Caution: Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury.

Route the Power Wire:
- Locate the black 12-gauge power wire from the T-Connector box.
- Attach the provided black wire and route it along the exterior frame to the engine compartment.
- Avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or any other areas that may damage the wire.

Connect to the Vehicle Battery:
- Disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable.
- Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder. Attach the ring terminal to the Positive (+) battery cable.
- Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black wire using the provided yellow butt connector.

Reconnect the Battery and Test:
- Reconnect the Negative (-) battery cable and install the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
- Test the installation using a test light or trailer. Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.

- Use the provided cable ties to secure the wiring harness, avoiding areas that may pinch, cut, or melt the wire.
