Installation Instructions for Hyundai Sonata (2020-Current)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove Trim Panel:
- Using a flat head screwdriver and a 10mm socket, remove (4) pop rivets and (2) M10 flange nuts from the driver-side trim panel.
- Return the trim panel to the owner.
-
Lower Exhaust:
- Using an M12 socket, remove (2) M12 flange nuts to lower the exhaust.
- Ensure the exhaust is supported before removing the nuts.
-
Remove Heat Shield:
- Using a 10mm socket, remove (3) M10 flange nuts from the heat shield.
- Gently pull on the heat shield to remove it and return it to the owner.

Install Hitch:
- Using pull wires, install 7/16"-14 x 1.5" carriage bolts and 3/16" x 1" x 2" spacers into the vehicle frame through the access hole.
- Leave the pull wires attached.
- Raise the hitch into position, align the holes in the hitch bracket with the carriage bolts, and guide the pull wire ends through the bracket holes.
- Remove the pull wires and install 7/16" conical washers (teeth side toward the hitch) and hex nuts.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Torque all 7/16"-14 Grade 5 fasteners to 50 ft-lb (68 N*m).

Reinstall Exhaust:
- Raise the exhaust back into position and secure it with the M12 flange nuts.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Open the Trunk:
- Temporarily remove the rear threshold plate.
- Partially remove the felt trunk liner behind the taillights to access the vehicle’s taillight wiring harness.

Locate the Vehicle’s Wiring Harness:
- On both the driver and passenger sides, locate the taillight wiring harness.
- Disconnect the harness connectors carefully, ensuring not to break the locking tabs.
- Clean all connector surfaces of dirt and debris.
-
Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Insert the T-One® Connector end with the yellow wire between the driver-side wiring connectors.
- Ensure all connections are secure and the locking tabs are engaged.

Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the green wire behind the panels and along the threshold to the passenger side.
- Connect the T-One® Connector end with the green wire between the passenger-side wiring connectors.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle’s frame or crossmember.
- Clean the grounding area of dirt and rustproofing.
- Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.

Route the Power Wire:
- Locate the black 12-gauge power wire from the T-One® T-Connector box on the driver’s side.
- Attach the provided black wire and route it along the vehicle’s exterior frame to the engine compartment, avoiding areas that may pinch, cut, or damage the wire.

Connect to the Vehicle Battery:
- Disconnect the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery cable.
- Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder (provided).
- Attach the ring terminal to the Positive (+) battery cable and secure it.
- Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black wire using the provided yellow butt connector.
Warning: Follow all warnings printed on the tow vehicle’s battery.

Reconnect the Battery and Test:
- Reconnect the Negative (-) battery cable.
- Insert the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
- Test the installation using a test light or trailer.
- Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.

- Locate a flat surface in an out-of-the-way location and mount the black box module using the provided double-sided tape.
