Installation Instructions for 2022-Current Mitsubishi Outlander

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Lower Exhaust Muffler:
- Use soapy water to lubricate the exhaust rubber hangers.
- Using exhaust removal pliers, remove the rubber hangers at the three rearmost locations.
- Note: Ensure the exhaust is properly supported before removing the hangers to prevent damage.

Trim Panels:
- Use tape and a marker to sketch a 2” x 2” square on the inside corner of the underbody panels on both sides.
- Using a die grinder, cut and remove the marked 2” x 2” corner on both sides (see Figures 2 and 3 in the manual).

Install Hitch:
- Clean the existing weldnuts on both frame rails using a wire brush to remove paint and debris.
- Raise the hitch into position and secure it to the vehicle with three M12 bolts and three 1/2” conical washers (teeth side toward the hitch) on each side.
- If necessary, press the heat shield up to prevent contact with the top of the hitch.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Use a torque wrench to tighten all M12 fasteners to 76 ft-lbs (103 N*m).

Reinstall Exhaust:
- Reinstall the rubber hangers and the exhaust muffler.
Hardware List:
- (6) Bolt M12 x 1.25 x 45 CL 8.8
- (6) Conical Washer 1/2" (teeth side toward hitch)
Safety Notes:
- Always wear safety glasses during installation.
- Periodically check the hitch to ensure all fasteners and the ball are securely tightened.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent the entry of water or exhaust fumes.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Open the Tailgate:
- Remove the taillight assemblies by carefully removing the trim covers near the taillights using a panel puller.
- Unscrew the taillight fasteners (2 per side) with a Phillips screwdriver and carefully pull the taillights away, ensuring not to damage alignment pins.

Expose the Taillight Connectors:
- Pull away the grommets on both the driver and passenger sides to access the interior area of the vehicle.
- Locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors and separate them carefully to avoid breaking the locking tabs. Clean all connectors.
-
Route the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Underneath the vehicle, route the harness containing the yellow wire through the opening between the bumper and body into the driver-side taillight pocket.
- Use a fish wire to ease the routing process.

Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Insert the T-One® Connector end with the yellow wire between the driver-side wiring connectors and lock them in place. Ensure all connections are clean and secure.

Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the harness containing the green wire across and underneath the vehicle, behind the bumper fascia, and into the passenger-side taillight pocket.
- Avoid hot pipes, heat shields, and areas that may pinch or damage the wire.

Connect the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Insert the T-One® Connector end with the green wire between the passenger-side wiring connectors and lock them in place.

Mount the Black Box:
- Mount the T-One® Connector’s black box on a flat, out-of-the-way surface on the driver’s side using the provided double-sided tape.
- Ensure the epoxy side of the module is facing downward to prevent water buildup.

Secure the Grommet:
- Route the T-Connector wiring through the slit grommets from step 2 and reseat the grommets back into their holes.
- Optional: Use RTV silicone (not included) to seal the grommets.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point, such as the vehicle’s frame or crossmember, near the black box.
- Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.

Connect the Power Wire:
- Locate the black 12-gauge wire from the T-One® Connector’s black box.
- Attach the provided black wire and route it along the frame or follow the vehicle's wiring harness into the engine compartment to the battery.

Connect to the Vehicle Battery:
- Disconnect the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery cable.
- Attach the fuse holder to the Positive (+) battery terminal using the provided ring terminal.
- Connect the black wire to the fuse holder using the provided yellow butt connector. Do not insert the fuse yet.

Reconnect the Battery and Test:
- Reconnect the Negative (-) battery cable.
- Insert the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
- Test the installation with a test light or trailer. Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.

Secure the Harness:
- Use the provided cable ties to secure the T-One® Connector harness. Avoid areas where it may be pinched, cut, or melted.

Reinstall Taillight Assemblies:
- Replace the taillight assemblies and any other removed components, ensuring no wires are pinched or damaged.

Mount the 4-Flat Connector:
- Route the 4-flat harness underneath the vehicle and mount it in an accessible location using a bracket or electrical box (not included).
