Installation Instructions for Toyota Prius and Toyota Prius V

Wiring Access Location:

• 6–8” Ratchet Extension
• Wrenches: 17mm, 19mm

Specifications:

• Max Gross Trailer Weight: 2,000 lb. (908 kg)
• Max Tongue Weight: 200 lb. (90.8 kg)
• Note: Do not exceed towing vehicle manufacturer’s rating.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Remove Tie-Down Hook:

   • On the driver's side, remove the tie-down hook while leaving the appearance panel in place (Prius only).
   • Return the tie-down hook and fasteners to the vehicle owner.

2. Lower Exhaust System:

   • Detach the exhaust at the rubber isolator, leaving the isolator in place on the exhaust.
   • Spray lubricant or soapy water on the metal hanger rod and rubber isolator to assist removal.
   • Be cautious to prevent the muffler from falling under its own weight.

3. Remove Muffler Hanger Fasteners:

   • Remove the two fasteners holding the rear muffler hanger and return them to the vehicle owner.

4. Position Hitch (Driver’s Side First):

   • Raise the driver’s side of the hitch into position through the tie-down bracket opening.
   • Rotate the hitch through the cut-out while keeping the passenger's side on the ground.
   • Support the hitch using a jack, blocks, or a second person.

5. Position Hitch (Passenger’s Side):

   • Raise the passenger’s side of the hitch over the tailpipe, ensuring the bracket is sandwiched between the frame rail and the exhaust hanger bracket.
   • Loosely install the fasteners.

6. Install Remaining Fasteners:

   • Secure all fasteners as shown in the installation diagram.

7. Tighten Fasteners:

   • Torque all M12 CL8.8 fasteners to 65 Lb.-Ft. (88 N*M) using a torque wrench.

8. Reinstall Exhaust:

   • Raise the exhaust back into position and secure it.

Hardware List:

• (4) Hex Bolts: M12 x 1.25 x 35mm CL8.8
• (4) Conical Washers: 1/2”

Safety Notes:

• Regularly inspect all fasteners and the hitch ball to ensure proper tightening.
• If the hitch is removed, plug any holes in the trunk pan or body panels to prevent water and exhaust fumes from entering.
• Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.

• Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
