Installation Instructions for 2023-Current Honda HR-V

Tools Required:

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Lower Exhaust:

   • Use exhaust removal pliers to remove the two rubber hangers and lower the exhaust.
   • Ensure the exhaust is supported before removing the hangers.
   • Use spray lubricant or soapy water to ease the removal of the hangers.

2. Enlarge Vehicle Frame Access Holes:

   • Use a die grinder to enlarge the access holes on both sides of the frame as needed to fit the carriage bolts and spacers.

3. Install Hitch:

   • Secure two flat washers to the rearmost attachment points using masking tape.
   • Use pull wires to guide the carriage bolts and spacers through the enlarged access holes and out of the frame mounting holes.
   • Raise the hitch into position, guiding the pull wires through the hitch bracket slots.
   • Remove the pull wires and loosely install conical washers (teeth side toward the hitch) and hex nuts.
   • Secure the center bracket to the tow hook using the provided 1/2" carriage bolt, spacer, conical washer, and lock nut.

4. Tighten Fasteners:

   • Tighten all 7/16" fasteners to 50 ft-lbs (68 N*m).
   • Tighten all 1/2" fasteners to 75 ft-lbs (102 N*m).

5. Reinstall Exhaust:

   • Reattach the exhaust to the rubber hangers removed in Step 1.

Installation Instructions for Modulite® HD Protector Vehicle Wiring

• Phillips Head #2 Screwdriver
• Wire Cutters
• Wire Strippers/Wire Crimpers
• Tester or Volt Meter
• Socket & Ratchet Set
• Drill with 3/32” Drill Bit
• Double-Sided Tape

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Tow Vehicle Inputs - Determination:

1. Disconnect and isolate the vehicle's negative battery terminal.
   • Warning: Read and follow all warnings and instructions on the tow vehicle's battery.
2. Splice the tow harness input wires to the vehicle as determined.
   • Caution: Use appropriate gauge wire splices. Blue taps are for 16-18 gauge wires only.

Harness Installation:

1. Determine the mounting location of the module and secure it using the double-sided tape provided.
   • Warning: Mount the module with the epoxy side pointed towards the ground to prevent water buildup.
2. Locate a suitable grounding point near the module, such as an existing ground stud, or drill a 3/32” hole to secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
   • Caution: Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or personal injury.
3. Route the power wire to the vehicle’s positive battery terminal. Use the provided fuse holder, butt connector, and ring terminal to connect to the battery.
   • Do not insert the 15 amp fuse yet.
   • Caution: Ensure the module is connected to a constant power source and avoid routing the wire near hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or pinch points.

Completion:

1. Secure the harness with cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling.
2. Reconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable.
3. Insert the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder and close the cap.
4. Test the installation using a test light or trailer. Check each function independently and in combination.
