Installation Instructions for Acura TLX (2021-Current)

- Ratchet
- Torque Wrench
- Safety Glasses
- Sockets: 10mm, 11/16"
- Drill with 1/2" Drill Bit
- Exhaust Removal Pliers
- Tape Measure
- Tin Snips
- Flat Head Screwdriver
- Marker
- 6" Socket Extension
- Soapy Water or Lubricant
Step-by-Step Instructions:
-
Lower Exhaust:
- Use exhaust removal pliers to remove the (2) rearmost rubber hangers on each side of the muffler.
- Spray lubricant or soapy water on the hangers to ease removal.
- Ensure the exhaust is properly supported before removing the hangers.

Remove Heat Shields:
- Using a 10mm socket, remove (4) bolts securing each heat shield (driver and passenger side).
- Remove the heat shields and set them aside.
-
Drill and Enlarge Holes:
- Raise the hitch into position and align it with the rear attachment holes on both sides.
- Use a marker to mark drill points at the center of the forward attachment holes of the hitch brackets.
- Ensure the hitch is straight while marking drill locations.
- Lower the hitch and drill 1/2" holes for the forward attachment points on both sides.
- Enlarge the rear attachment holes to 1/2" using the same drill.

Install Hitch:
- Feed the 7/16" carriage bolts and spacers into the attachment holes through the access holes using pull wires.
- Leave the pull wires attached.
- Raise the hitch into position and guide the pull wires through the bracket holes.
- Remove the pull wires and loosely install the conical washers (teeth side toward hitch) and hex nuts.

Trim Heat Shields:
- Use a tape measure, marker, and tin snips to measure, mark, and trim the heat shields as shown in the provided diagrams.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Use a torque wrench to tighten all 7/16"-14 GR5 fasteners to 50 ft-lb (68 N*m).

Reinstall Heat Shields and Exhaust:
- Reinstall the trimmed heat shields using the original bolts.
- Raise the exhaust back into position and reattach the rubber hangers.

- (4) Carriage Bolt, 7/16"-14 x 1.50 GR5
- (4) Spacer, 0.188" x 1.00" x 2.00"
- (4) Conical Washer, 7/16"
- (4) Hex Nut, 7/16"-14
- (4) Pull Wire, 7/16"-14
Safety Notes:
- Always wear safety glasses during installation.
- Frequently check the hitch to ensure all fasteners and the ball are securely tightened.
- Plug any removed holes in the trunk pan or body panels to prevent water or exhaust fumes from entering.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
