Installation Instructions for 2021-Current Mercedes GLA250

- Sockets: 8 mm, 10 mm, 16 mm, 3/4”
- Universal Joint

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Lower Exhaust:
- Use a 10 mm socket to remove one bolt from the rearward driver-side exhaust hanger. Repeat on the passenger side.
- Disconnect the exhaust sensor on the passenger side before lowering.
- Use a 16 mm socket to remove two bolts from the mid-vehicle exhaust hanger. Set the hardware aside for reuse.

Remove and Trim Heat Shield:
- Use an 8 mm socket to remove five screws from the underside of the vehicle (three near the center fascia and one per side near the exhaust).
- Remove four nuts from the center of the heat shield and gently set it aside.
- Use tin snips to trim the heat shield as shown in Figure 2. Reinstall the heat shield using four nuts and three screws removed earlier (remaining two screws are not reused).

Remove Frame Rail Hardware:
- Use a T25 star driver to remove one screw from the driver-side frame rail. Repeat on the passenger side.

Drill Holes:
- Raise the hitch into position and align with the two foremost attachment holes. Use a marker to mark the second rearmost hole center on both sides.
- Lower the hitch and drill a 1/2” hole in the marked locations on both sides.

Install Hitch:
- Use pull wires to feed carriage bolts and spacers into the frame rails through the foremost access hole.
- Raise the hitch into position and align it with the drilled holes. Remove pull wires and loosely install the following hardware:
- M8 bolts
- Conical washers
- Flat washers
- Hex nuts

Tighten Fasteners:
- Tighten all 1/2”-13 GR5 fasteners to 75 ft-lbs (102 Nm).
- Tighten all M8 fasteners to 20 ft-lbs (27 Nm).

Reinstall Exhaust and Sensor:
- Raise the exhaust back into position and reattach the sensor using the hardware removed earlier.

- (4) Carriage Bolt 1/2”-13 x 1.75” GR5
- (4) Conical Washer 1/2”
- (4) Hex Nut 1/2”-13 GR5
- (2) Spacer 1/4” x 1.00” x 3.00”

- (4) Pull Wire 1/2”-13
- (4) M8 Hex Bolt
- (2) Flat Washer 3/8”

Installation Instructions for Modulite® HD Protector Vehicle Wiring

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Tow Vehicle Inputs - Determination:
- Disconnect and isolate the vehicle's negative battery terminal.
- Warning: Read and follow all warnings and instructions on the tow vehicle's battery.
- Splice the tow harness input wires to the vehicle as determined.
- Caution: Use appropriate gauge wire splices. Blue taps are for 16-18 gauge wires only.
Harness Installation:
- Determine the mounting location of the module and secure it using the double-sided tape provided.
- Warning: Mount the module with the epoxy side pointed towards the ground to prevent water buildup.
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the module, such as an existing ground stud, or drill a 3/32” hole to secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
- Caution: Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or personal injury.
- Route the power wire to the vehicle’s positive battery terminal. Use the provided fuse holder, butt connector, and ring terminal to connect to the battery.
- Do not insert the 15 amp fuse yet.
- Caution: Ensure the module is connected to a constant power source and avoid routing the wire near hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or pinch points.
Completion:
- Secure the harness with cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling.
- Reconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable.
- Insert the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder and close the cap.
- Test the installation using a test light or trailer. Check each function independently and in combination.
